In case anaemia was induced by the testing material, its nature can be characterized macrocytic, microcytic, hypo- or hyper-chromic. The type of the anaemia provides information on the mechanism of induction of anaemia.

Other measurements used to classify the type of anemia present include the mean corpuscular volume (MCV) and the mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC). The MCV is the average volume of the red blood cell, expressed in femto (10 ) liters. Normal MCV range from 80 to 100 fL. The MCHC is the average concentration of hemoglobin in each individual erythrocyte, expressed in g/L. The normal range is 32 to 37 a value of less than 32 would indicate hypochromic cells. Thus, microcytic, hypochromic red blood cells have an MCV of less than 80 and an MCHC of less than 32. Macrocytic, normochromic cells have an MCV of greater than 100, with an MCHC between 32 and 37. 

The following examinations were made with blood collected from the cephalic vein of forefoot in a tube containing EDTA-2K before and 12 months after application. Red blood cell (RBC) and platelet, white blood cell (WBC) and differential leukocyte count, hemoglobin and hematocrit were determined by Technicon H6000 system, calculated mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC). 

The in vivo influence of apitherapy diet on erythrocytes in wistar rats with experimentally CCL4-induced hepatotoxicity was determined, showing that an apitherapy diet and RJ in laboratory animals improved the hematologic parameter values to normal levels (number of erythrocytes, RBC hemoglobin, HGB hematocrit, HCT mean corpuscular volume, MCV, VEM mean corpuscular hemoglobin, MCH, HEM mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration, MCHC, CHEM red cell distribution width, RDW) [76].
