Material pulverizing

Casteilanas(Paudres). Two types of dynamites were used at the end of the 19th century a)NG+ NB + fibrous material + pulverized earth and b) NG + K or Na nitrate + picrate + sulfur + carbon + incombustible salt insol in NG(such as Zn, Mg or Ca silicate, Ca oxalate or Zn carbonate. The recommended compn of latter type consisted of ... [Pg.478]

A serious drawback in the study of the changes in physical properties due to hydrogen absorption is the fact that the material pulverizes during charging. Using standard methods it therefore seems impossible to determine electrical transport... [Pg.78]

Because of the risk of lead poisoning, the exposure of children to lead-based paint is a significant public health concern. The first step in the quantitative analysis of lead in dried paint chips is to dissolve the sample. Corl evaluated several dissolution techniques. " In this study, samples of paint were collected and pulverized with a Pyrex mortar and pestle. Replicate portions of the powdered paint were then taken for analysis. Results for an unknown paint sample and for a standard reference material, in which dissolution was accomplished by a 4-6-h digestion with HNO3 on a hot plate, are shown in the following table. [Pg.226]

Polyurethane is pulverized to iacrease its bulk density, mixed with 30—80% of a thermoplastic mol ding material, gelled, and then granulated to give coated urethane foam particles 0.1 to 0.15 mm in size (48). The particle bulk density is three times that of the polyurethane, while the volume is 15% less. This material may be injection molded or extmsion molded into products (49). Other technologies for recycling polyurethanes have also been reported. [Pg.231]

Process industries frequently need to weigh and control the flow rate of bulk material for optimum performance of such devices as grinders or pulverizers, or for controlling additives, eg, to water suppHes. A scale can be installed in a belt conveyor, or a short belt feeder can be mounted on a platform scale. Either can be equipped with controls to maintain the feed rate within limits by controlling the operation of the device feeding the material to the conveyor. Direct mass measurement with a nuclear scale can also be used to measure and control such a continuous stream of material. [Pg.333]

Generally, soluble materials are more effective as micronutrient sources than are insoluble ones. For this reason, many soil minerals that contain the micronutrient elements are ineffective sources for plants. Some principal micronutrient sources and uses are summarized below. In this discussion the term frits refers to a fused, pulverized siUceous material manufactured and marketed commercially for incorporation in fertilizers. Chelates refers to metaHoorganic complexes specially prepared and marketed as especially soluble, highly assimilable sources of micronutrient elements (see CHELATING agents). [Pg.242]

A high, moisture content necessitates finer grinding of coal for rapid water release. For such coals, the classifier in the pulverizer is set to return more of the oversize material for further grinding. [Pg.157]

Portland Cement Manufacture. The second greatest use of limestone is as raw material in the manufacture of Pordand cement (10). The average limestone factor per ton of Pordand cement is 1.0—1.1 t of pulverized limestone. The limestone, calcined to lime in the cement rotary kiln, combines with siUca and alumina to form tricalcium siUcate and tricalcium aluminate and other lesser cementing compounds (see Cement). Most cement companies operate captive limestone quarries. [Pg.177]

Mineral Feed. Mineral feed supplements for domestic animals and fowl usually contain a pure form of pulverized limestone. In fact, some state laws require the supplement to be at least 35% available calcium. Other sources of calcium are bone meal and dicalcium phosphate. Use as mineral feed has been a steadily growing market for limestone. The material is ground to 90% minus 0.15 mm (100 mesh) or 80% minus 0.9074 mm (200 mesh), is low in silica, and has strict tolerances on arsenic and fluorine (see Feeds and feed additives). [Pg.177]

The matte can be treated in different ways, depending on the copper content and on the desired product. In some cases, the copper content of the Bessemer matte is low enough to allow the material to be cast directly into sulfide anodes for electrolytic refining. Usually it is necessary first to separate the nickel and copper sulfides. The copper—nickel matte is cooled slowly for ca 4 d to faciUtate grain growth of mineral crystals of copper sulfide, nickel—sulfide, and a nickel—copper alloy. This matte is pulverized, the nickel and copper sulfides isolated by flotation, and the alloy extracted magnetically and refined electrolyticaHy. The nickel sulfide is cast into anodes for electrolysis or, more commonly, is roasted to nickel oxide and further reduced to metal for refining by electrolysis or by the carbonyl method. Alternatively, the nickel sulfide may be roasted to provide a nickel oxide sinter that is suitable for direct use by the steel industry. [Pg.3]

Cocoa powder (cocoa) is prepared by pulverizing the remaining material after part of the fat (cocoa butter) is removed from chocolate Hquor. The U.S. chocolate standards define three types of cocoas based on their fat content. These are breakfast, or high fat cocoa, containing not less than 22% fat cocoa, or medium fat cocoa, containing less than 22% fat but more than 10% and low fat cocoa, containing less than 10% fat. [Pg.92]

Prior to being fed to a pulverized fuel burner, coal is ground to a size generally specified such that at least 70% passes a 200 mesh screen (75 Tm) and less than 2% is retained on a 52 mesh screen (300 Tm). The top size is deterrnined by the classifying component of the cmshing mill, oversize material being retained for further grinding (54,100,101). [Pg.526]
