Mineral Feed. Mineral feed supplements for domestic animals and fowl usually contain a pure form of pulverized limestone. In fact, some state laws require the supplement to be at least 35% available calcium. Other sources of calcium are bone meal and dicalcium phosphate. Use as mineral feed has been a steadily growing market for limestone. The material is ground to 90% minus 0.15 mm (100 mesh) or 80% minus 0.9074 mm (200 mesh), is low in silica, and has strict tolerances on arsenic and fluorine (see Feeds and feed additives). [Pg.177]

In the United States, laws passed since the late 1970s have encouraged the development of cogeneration plants and independent power plants developed by nonutiHty power producers. Combustion-turbine-based faciHties have become extremely popular among nonutiHty power plant developers. Among the many reasons for selecting this technology is the abiHty to develop compact, modular, combustion-turbine-based power plants within one or two years. [Pg.2]

The law contains a compHcated provision, which case law has further elaborated, concerning ownership of renewal rights. Generally, renewal rights do not vest until the last year of the initial term. At that time they vest in the author. If the author is dead, the rights vest in the author s surviving spouse and children as a class in the author s executor, ie, the beneficiaries under the author s will, if there is no surviving spouse or children or in the author s next of kin under appHcable state law if the author did not leave a will. [Pg.265]

Most state laws and safe practice require a safety relief valve ahead of the first stop valve in every positive displacement compressed air system. It is set to release at 1.25 times the normal discharge pressure of the compressor or at the maximum working pressure of the system, whichever is lower. The relief valve piping system sometimes includes a manual vent valve and/or a bypass valve to the suction to facilitate startup and shutdown operations. Quick line sizing equations are (1) line connection, (i/1.75 (2) bypass, ii/4.5 (3) vent, dl63 and (4) relief valve port, cU9. [Pg.647]

Under federal law, limited quantities of certain schedule V drugs may be purchased without a prescription directly from a pharmacist if allowed under state law. The purchaser must be at least 18 years of age and must furnish identification. All such transactions must be recorded by the dispensing pharmacist. [Pg.4]

The major technical problem was the inability to define subsurface geohydrologic conditions with the initial data. Expertise in the area of geohydrology was clearly needed. A lack of specific analytical techniques precluded meaningful environmental and risk assessments. Cleanup efforts were complicated because poltiners are not regulated under RCRA but are regulated under state law. In the middle of the cleanup effort, the site became involved in Superfund activities, and to date this involvement has not been clarified. Project management has become very difficult because of the many players and laws involved. As a result, public confidence has been affected. [Pg.25]

USPC, The United States Pharmacopeia is a compendium of information on drug products. The standards set forth in the USP are recognized in both federal and state law. [Pg.156]

Because the protection afforded users of economic poisons under the federal law applies only to materials shipped in interstate commerce, state laws must provide adequate protection to users of economic poisons shipped solely within the state, and provide cooperative enforcement of the federal law. [Pg.21]

The manufacture and sale of parenteral products is regulated by federal and state laws, as well as by the USP. Federal drug regulations are discussed in detail in Chapter 20. The USP provides specifications, test procedures, standards, etc. for parenteral products and their packaging components. In addition to individual monographs, the USP limits the use of certain additives (see Table 4), limits the size of multiple-dose containers to 30 mL, and requires a suitable preservative to be added to containers intended for multiple use. [Pg.412]

In Chapter 3 the steady-state hydrodynamic aspects of two-phase flow were discussed and reference was made to their potential for instabilities. The instability of a system may be either static or dynamic. A flow is subject to a static instability if, when the flow conditions change by a small step from the original steady-state ones, another steady state is not possible in the vicinity of the original state. The cause of the phenomenon lies in the steady-state laws hence, the threshold of the instability can be predicted only by using steady-state laws. A static instability can lead either to a different steady-state condition or to a periodic behavior (Boure et al., 1973). A flow is subject to a dynamic instability when the inertia and other feedback effects have an essential part in the process. The system behaves like a servomechanism, and knowledge of the steady-state laws is not sufficient even for the threshold prediction. The steady-state may be a solution of the equations of the system, but is not the only solution. The above-mentioned fluctuations in a steady flow may be sufficient to start the instability. Three conditions are required for a system to possess a potential for oscillating instabilities ... [Pg.485]

It seems clear that government as a funding agency and physicians as clinical providers may take race into account when racial correlations with health status or health care are directly relevant. In many clinical situations moral and legal duties to take race into account in order to respond properly to the patient s health needs may also exist, either because of state action or because of state laws banning racial and ethnic discrimination in public accommodations, which include hospitals and physician offices. Three situations in which a physician may have a duty to recognize racial correlations and order a different test or therapy as a result are discussed below. [Pg.304]

Finally, another obstacle is that some clients will not seek help out of fear that others will discover that they have drug problems and use that information against them. One solution is to educate the client about federal confidentiality laws that protect against disclosure while in treatment, or state laws that protect client confidentiality in therapy. Flowever, you also should be very honest that there are ways in which confidentiality can be suspended, or when outside institutions can access personal health information. For example, make sure to explain that state confidentiality laws can and will be suspended if the client expresses thoughts about harming him- or herself or others, and in some states, if he or she damages property. Additionally, if a client is mandated to services, he or she should be told that those officials who mandated the treatment may have access to treatment records and reports. Finally, tell clients that insurance carriers and their representatives also may have the right to access that information. Clients should be made aware that there are a number of protections in place to protect them, but also told frankly that some of the protections have limits. [Pg.116]

Even before 9/11, the chemical industry was (and is) one of the nation s most regulated industries. It is subject to numerous environmental regulations as well as to the voluntary obligations imposed by the chemical industry s environmental, health, and safety improvement initiatives. Including federal/state OSHA statutes, fifteen major federal statutes, as well as numerous state laws, impose significant compliance and reporting requirements on the industry (see sidebar 3.3). [Pg.51]
