Denture Bases. Prosthodontics is involved with materials and techniques for the replacement of missing oral and extraoral maxillofacial tissues. A large part of prosthodontics involves replacing the teeth of edentulous patients, eg, making dentures. [Pg.488]

Welded Welded joints connect the subassemblies of some fluid power systems, especially in high-pressure systems that use pipe for fluid lines. The welding is done according to standard specifications that define the materials and techniques. [Pg.624]

Materials and Techniques. The tanks and chambers for treatments 1, 3 and 4 were constructed of 3/16-inch-thick OP-4 Plexiglas those for treatment 2 were constructed of iM-inch-thick OP-2 Plexiglas. Mylar D (thickness 4 mils) was placed over the top of treatment tank 3 to reduce levels of ambient UV-B. Transmission spectra of these materials are shown in Fig. 3. Enhancement of UV-A and UV-B was achieved by placing four FS-20 Westinghouse fluorescent sunlamps underneath treatment tank 4. In order to exclude most of the radiation less than 290 nm wavelength emitted by the lamps, a sheet of 4 mils thick Kodacel (TA 401), which had been preconditioned by exposure to a sunlamp for approximately 100 hours, was placed between the sunlamps and the bottom of the enhanced UV tank. [Pg.191]

Abstract Dye-doped polymeric micro- and nanobeads represent smart analytical tools that have become very popular recently. They enable noninvasive contactless sensing and imaging of various analytical parameters on a nanoscale and are also widely employed in composite sensing materials, in suspension arrays, and as labels. This contribution gives an overview of materials and techniques used for preparation of dye-doped polymeric beads. It also provides examples of bead materials and their applications for optical sensing and imaging. [Pg.193]

Some of the materials and techniques used in molecular biology may attract royalties if used for commercial purposes. Vectors, host strains and off-the-shelf DNA manipulation methods are usually readily available for modest licence fees for research purposes, but additional licences would need to be sought (and fees paid) if these systems were used in a commercial process. Where commercial exploitation is planned, the researchers should be prepared to switch to royalty-free genetic systems and avoid the use of costly and potentially toxic materials, such as artificial inducers or substrates, as gene expression regulators. [Pg.103]

One of the major reasons for the intense interest in CNT is their extreme and varied properties. Table 12.7 contains a comparison between SWCNTs and competitive materials and techniques. Another reason is that CNTs are produced from readily available inexpensive materials and are being considered for use as both bulk materials, such as in composites and clothing, and as components in computers, electrical devices, etc. [Pg.411]
