Master-slave system

Now, I want to build much the same device - a master-slave system which operates electrically. But I want the slaves to be made especially carefully by modern large-scale machinists so that they are one-fourth the scale of the hands that you ordinarily maneuver. So you have a scheme by which you can do things at one-quarter scale anyway - the little servo motors with little hands play with little nuts and bolts they drill little holes they are four times smaller. Aha So I manufacture a quarter-size lathe I manufacture quarter-size tools and I make, at the one-quarter scale, still another set of hands again relatively one-quarter size This is one-sixteenth size, from my point of view. And after I finish doing this I wire directly from my large-scale system, through transformers perhaps, to the one-sixteenth-size servo motors. Thus I can now manipulate the one-sixteenth size hands. 

Meanwhile, in the area of remote manipulation, electrohydraulic, or electromechanical, bilateral master-slave systems were developed for the nuclear power industry to reduce the mental burden placed on the operator by providing force reflection. Aircraft controls for large planes and some high-performance military aircraft, building on work from the field of teleoperation or remote manipulation, have done away with the direct physical interconnection of the pilot and flight surfaces and now use fly-by-wire systems. 

HPLC systems operate on a master-slave arrangement in setting up for automation. One module sets the timing and initiates the process, and the remaining modules accept a signal and follow the leader. In a gradient HPLC system, the master module can be a microprocessor-based controller, a computer software-based controller, an autosampler, or an integrator. 

Medical Sources. All medical encapsulations are done in a facility which consists of a series of five interconnected stainless steel boxes which provide primary containment of process equipment and materials. Interconnections include transfer ports, drop-through tubes, and ventilation ducts. Each containment enclosure has a floor area of 1.52 m x 0.91 m the floor level is 0.76 m above the building floor. A pair of master-slave manipulators serve each containment box. A closed circuit television system and a telescope are provided for close-up viewing of incell operations and can be moved from cell to cell as needed. General arrangement of the facility is shown in Figures 13 and 14. 

A totally different approach respects the idea that a Virtual Reality application that has basically the same state of its domain objects will render the same scene, respectively. It is therefore sufficient to distribute the state of the domain objects to render the same scene. In a multi-screen environment, the camera on the virtual scene has to be adapted to the layout of your projection system. This is a very common approach and is followed more or less, e.g., by approaches such as ViSTA or NetJuggler [978]. It is called the master-slave, or mirrored application paradigm, as all slave nodes run the same application and all user input is distributed from the master node to the slave nodes. All input events are replayed in the slave nodes and as a consequence, for deterministic environments, the state of the domain objects is sjmchronized on all slave nodes which results in the same state for the visualization. The master machine, just like the client machine in the client-server approach, does all the user input dispatching, but as a contrast to the client-server model, a master machine can be part of the rendering environment. This is a consequence from the fact that all nodes in this setup merely must provide the same graphical and computational resources, as all calculate the application state in parallel.

Thus the real degree of parallelism (RDP) at an A-value of 10 will be well below 10 when installing 10 slave processors, it may be say 8. Increasing the number of slave processors from 10 to 100 will increase the RDP only by a factor of 1 or 1.5 or it may even decrease it due to administration overhead. The quotient of RDP and ADP does not only depend on the number of slaves but to a high extent on the quality and tuning of the master operating system. 

A well-known commercial system using master-slave architecture for laparoscopy is the da Vinci (Intuitive Surgical, Inc., Sunnyvale, California, United States). The master haptic and visual station is shown in Figure 1.6 together with a single-port three-arm slave. Currently the da Vinci has no force feedback on the master.

In practice the data acquisition system of the beamline will be the master system. All other techniques that one would like to interface to be used simultaneously will have to do this in a master-slave configuration in which the digital systems used for instance Raman or Drifts will be synchronized via pulses from the master system. 

For example, systems that must have close control of flow should use two proportioning valves that act in tandem to maintain a balanced hydraulic or aerodynamic system. The primary, or master, valve should control flow to the downstream process. The second valve, slaved to the master, should divert excess flow to a bypass loop. This master-slave approach ensures that the pumps and other upstream system components are permitted to operate well within their operating envelope. 

In this configuration, the outer portions of IPMC serve as one sector (Sector 1) and are driven by input i(0> while the middle portion serves as a second sector (Sector 2) and is driven by input U2(t). These controls represent the reference class of today s hot runner control systems, depending on the accuracy, functionality, ease of use, and adaptability. All control functions can be easily adapted to the Windows-like user interface. Fault analysis and diagnosis of the hot runner system are possible as well as master-slave configurations and loading of drawings or photos into the user-friendly touch-screen display for intuitive adjustment of the nozzles and hot runner block control areas.
