Management distributor

Wholesalers and retailers often suffer from inefficient logistics management. Distributors may have as much as 70% of their assets in inventory that is not moving fast, while retailers receive replenishments and new products long after sales opportunities have disappeared. Optimizing distribution cycles and lowering incurred costs are a common concern for manufacturers, distributors, and retailers.

A fundamental problem that occurs even in fully industrialized countries and large international companies, is that whereas many smaller boiler plant managers purchase well-designed and efficient boilers, pumps, and auxiliaries from recognized quality manufacturers and distributors, the design and construction of FW tanks and even the overall boiler house system may be placed in the hands of persons with inadequate training and experience.

Several voluntary industry initiatives, such as ACC s Responsible Care and NACD s Responsible Distribution Process (RDP), provide guidance on process safety management for chemical manufacturers and distributors. However, no voluntary industry initiatives list specific codes or requirements for reactive hazard management.

The nine surveyed companies volunteered to participate. These parts are used in fluidized beds for various purposes. For example, gas distributors and various types of baffles are installed to decrease the size of the bubbles. Moreover, draft tubes are used to enhance gas or solid circulation. Other devices such as horizontal baffles limit circulation and backmixing of solids and gas. Horizontal or vertical tubes are used for heat management. Devices used to control or improve fluidization behavior, to improve fluidization of cohesive particles or to achieve solids recovery are within the various internals met in fluidized bed reactors (Kelkar and Ng, 2002). Immersed tubes in small diameter beds may lead to slugging. Furthermore, attrition of particle breakage may change the size distribution and possibly change the fluidization behavior.

Focusing on the complex area of the market where chemicals are required at short notice and in fairly small quantities, chemical distributors have developed over time into important players in the value chain from producers to consumers in a broad role, serving as supply chain managers offering a wide range of logistics and value-added services. 

Over the course of time, however, leading distributors like Brenntag developed more and more towards the concept of supply chain management. Today, chemical distributors play a number of essential roles in the value chain between chemical producers and consumers (Fig. 12.1).
