Maintenance life cycle stages

Computer Systems Validation (CSV) The formal assessment and reporting of quality and performance measures for all the life-cycle stages of software and system development, its implementation, qualification and acceptance, operation, modification, requalification, maintenance, and retirement, such that the user has a high level of confidence in the integrity of both the processes executed within the controlling computer system(s), and in those processes controlled by and/or linked to the computer system(s), within the prescribed operating environments) (MCA). 

The term life cyde refers to the major activities in the course of the product s lifespan from its manufacture, use, and maintenance, to its final disposal, including the raw material acquisition required to manufacture the product Figure 15.6 [151] illustrates the possible life cycle stages that can be considered in an LCA and the typical inputs/outputs measured.

As depicted in Figure 1, a life-cycle inventory may involve all stages in production, use, and disposal, including raw material extraction, transportation, primary processing, conversion to finished products, incorporahon into finished products, maintenance and repair, and disposal. The system boundary (indicated by the dashed line) dehnes those operahons to be included in the inventory of environmental impacts. 

The Operation Phase focuses on the Production, Evaluation, and Archive stages of the life cycle. It covers maintenance, end-user support requirements, knowledge revalidation options and maintenance, ongoing training and documentation, and software updates. 

The use of objects is also advantageous during the later stages of the life cycle—ongoing operations, system security, change control, periodic reviews and maintenance are all made easier through the use of object-oriented software.
