Lubricating greases, corrosion preventive

Dextrin is also applied as the component of protective colloids, lubricating greases, corrosion inhibitors, and scale-preventing formulations for water treatment. The stabilization of colloidal AgCl increases the sensitivity of the determination of chloride anions by titration with AgNOj. [Pg.325]

The main function of most lubricants is to reduce friction and wear between moving surfaces and to abstract heat. They also have to remove debris from the contact area, e.g. combustion products in an engine cylinder, swarf in metal-cutting operations. Sometimes they have to protect the lubricated or adjacent parts against corrosion, but this is not a prime function of most lubricants. On the other hand, many lubricants do contain corrosion inhibitors and some lubricating oils, greases, mineral fluids and compounds are specially formulated to prevent the corrosion of machinery or machine parts, particularly when these components are in storage or transit. These temporary protectives are described in Section 17.3. [Pg.447]

Reasonable choice of wire rope lubrication mode, grease and galvanized thickness, should be a way to effective prevention of wire rope corrosion. For a vertical shaft friction hoist, the general choice of class B or class AB galvanized wire rope, fiber rope core with the lubrication... [Pg.81]

Corrosion tests for hydraulic brake line fluid, as well as for motor oil, grease, and lubricants, are listed in Table 12. In addition, the effects of various fuels on materials have been of importance due to the effect of small amounts of water, which can become trapped in eureas such as the fuel tank [57]. Various additives to fuels can prevent corrosion effects and include inhibitor packages and small amounts of alcohol and aromatics. Recently, corrosion testing of ethanol fuels has been of interest because small amounts of water as well as other contaminants (chlorides) cause severe corrosion to occur [55]. Tests for fuels include electrochemical polarization and immersion tests (Table 12). [Pg.684]

In plain bearings, the lubricant must reduce sliding friction and prevent rust and corrosion. Grease in a bearing does not carry away much heat, but it can help prevent the entry of contaminants. [Pg.866]

In antifriction bearings, a lubricant facilitates easy rolling reduces the friction generated between the rolling elements and the cages or retainers prevents rust and corrosion and, in the case of grease, serves as a seal to prevent the entry of foreign material. [Pg.867]

Uses Emulsifier, hydrotrope, dispersant, lubricant, corrosion Inhibitor with antltflc-tlonal properties for oil and water-soluble lubricant systems, e.g., greases, synthetic cutting oils, drawing compds., chain-belt lubricants, gear oils, rust preventives... [Pg.704]

To facilitate the movement, as well as increase the gasket and the lifetime of the plunger, silicone grease is used on the O-rings (better known as vacuum grease) because it is not soluble in water and prevents corrosion. In other words, a light film of a lubricant made with silicone grease was used that both sealed and acted as a permanent lubricant to reduce friction. [Pg.191]
