LSD Sample

There are many LSD laboratories dotted across the nation which prepare small quantities of LSD for personal use and the use of close friends. There are also med labs . They are run by professionals who continue to produce LSD for patients following the moratorium on human testing. These laboratories generally do not distribute to the public. There are several organized crime laboratories which turn out very large quantities of drugs, not limited to LSD. 

During 3 years in the mid 1970 s I knew of 6 LSD labs (3 grad labs 1 idiot lab 2 med labs). All fizzled in a year, except for one med lab that punched IQQug and 2QQug tablets for aleast a decade. 

When a synthesis would take place, I was privileged to be one of the first of many migraine sufferers to obtain relief. Everything is so secretive, no face to face (1970 s) with Dr. Lysergic Acid in possession. 

When drug intelligence is given a confiscated sample of LSD there are many tests which can be done to determine more about the source of the drug. 

New make shift laboratories for public distribution do not have access to tablet machines (due to cost) and the drug itself tells a lot about the production techniques and knowledge of the chemist/s producing the drug.

Similarly, frequently-repeated reports that black-market lsd was often adulterated with strychnine are false. While Albert Hofmann in 1970 detected strychnine in a putative LSD sample, the ingestion of which proved fatal to one unfortunate experimenter (Hofmann 1980), subsequent analyses of hundreds of black-market LSD samples felled to detect strychnine (Brown Malone 1973A). Nevertheless, many users considered some lsd samples to be contaminated with strychnine. As Brown and Malone commented of their analytical work ... 

Summarizing the analyses of 581 black-market lsd samples. Brown and Malone reported 491 (84.5%) contained lsd while 31 (5.3%) contained lsd and pop. There were n samples (1.9%) with pcp only, and 5 containing lsd plus amphetamine or methamphetamine. One sample was ready STP or DOM (see Chapter i), and 2 contained only amphetamines. In ad, 527 of these 581 samples, or 90.7% actuady... 

The elimination of all investigated cannabinoids has been observed to be very poor finding occasionally higher concentrations of these compounds in effluent than in influent waters, which may be related to deconjugation of excreted conjugated forms not yet investigated. The same phenomenon may be attributed to the persistence of LSD in some of the investigated effluent samples.

As it can be observed in Fig. 2, three out of the 16 investigated compounds, namely, heroin, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), and its metabolite 2-oxo, 3-hydroxy-LSD (O-H-LSD), were not detected in any wastewater sample. Two other target analytes, 6-acetyl morphine (6ACM) and A9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), were only present in influent wastewaters and with low detection frequencies. The most ubiquitous compounds, present in all influent and effluent wastewater samples analyzed, were the cocaine metabolite benzoylecgonine, and the amphetamine-like compounds ephedrine (EPH) and 3,4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA or ecstasy). Cocaine, cocaethylene (CE, transesterification product of cocaine formed after the joint consumption of cocaine and ethanol), and morphine (MOR) were detected in all influent, but not in all effluent wastewaters (see Fig. 2). 

The nurse reeords observations at seheduled intervals. Seoring [0] if feature is absent, [1] if present but mild and [2] if marked. Items were ehosen from those most frequently mentioned in nursing observations as reeorded in the elinieal eharts of a large sample of volunteers who had previously reeeived a belladonnoid drug. (Items were less relevant to drugs sueh as LSD.)... 

The cure for dream psychosis is awakening. As soon as REM terminates, the serotonin system escapes from inhibition and modulates the visual system in favor of the undistorted processing of external data. As the LSD effects wore off, Hofmann slept deeply, thereby restoring the efficacy of his own serotonin neuromodulatory system. Too bad we couldn t have recorded that first recovery night to detect Hofmann s REM, measure it, decide if it was more or less intense, and even perform an awakening or two to sample his post-LSD dreams. 

Another study, the National Household Survey on Dmg Abuse (NHSDA), tracks drug, alcohol, and tobacco use in a sample of 13,000 Americans aged 12 and over. According to this survey, 6% of respondents had used LSD in 1988. The number increased to 7.7% in 1996, and most users were in the 18-to-25 age group. 

Maybe or maybe not. Studies done in California, where over 300 street samples of psilocybin mushrooms were bought and analyzed revealed that 85% of the mushrooms were not Psilocybe (the species that produces psilocybin). Instead, the majority were grocery store mushrooms injected with LSD, PCP, or both. It should be noted that LSD is 100 times as potent as psilocybin and has much more intense, long-lasting, and serious effects. LSD and PCP are both manmade. 

Of 64 samples said to be THC, none were as alleged, 95.3% were PCP, and the rest were LSD and other substances.

In 1977, the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) issued a National Survey on Drug Abuse based on a sampling of 4,594 people. The report estimated that about ten million Americans (6 percent of the population over the age of twelve) had by then used a strong psychedelic, mostly LSD, with somewhat over a million falling into the category of "regular users. ... 

Chemical test kits advertised by mail order for checking out alleged psychedelics generally rely on the Keller and van Urk-Smith color-change tests. In these, the sample to be examined is poured into a reagent with the resulting color then compared with standards. Albert Hofmann has described these processes as they relate to LSD ...

These authors reported high efficiency separations of heroin, heroin impurities, degradation products, and adulterants (Fig. 8.1). Also discriminated were acidic and neutral impurities present in heroin seized by law enforcement agencies, as well as in illicit cocaine samples, with resolution of benzoylecgon-ine, cocaine, cis- and frans-cinnamoylcocaine. MEKC was also used with a broad spectrum of other compounds of forensic interest, including psilocybin, morphine, phenobarbital, psilocin, codeine, methaqualone, lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), amphetamine, chlordiazepoxide, methamphetamine, lora-zepam, diazepam, fentanyl, phencyclidine hydrochloride (PCP), cannabidiol, and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which were all separated with baseline resolution.
