For bus systems there are several standard or quasi-standard bus structures available. For high-speed connection you can use the popular automotive CAN bus (control area network) or the SPI interface (serial peripheral interface) often used to connect the sensor to the microcontroller inside the control unit For lower speeds the LIN bus (local interconnect network) is available. In both cases a microcontroller inside the sensor unit is necessary, which works with a stable quartz clock frequency. [Pg.267]

An unidirectional RF data transmission principle is used from the wheel to the vehicle. The RF system is designed to ensure reliable transmission of the data in a wide variety of conditions such as statistical fluctuations of reception amplitude caused by varying reception conditions at the antenna. The transmissions take place in the 433 MHz range, the so-called ISM waveband in some territories the 315 MHz waveband is used. Transputers. At higher levels of coimectedness there is a wide variety of parallel computers. A great many parallel computers have been built using INMOS Transputer chips. Individual Transputer chips mn at 2 MELOPS or greater. Transputer chips have four communication channels, so the chips can readily be intercoimected into a two-dimensional mesh network or into any other interconnection scheme where individual nodes are four-coimected. Most Transputer systems have been built as additions to existing host computers and are SIMD type. Each Transputer has a relatively small local memory as well as access to the host s memory through the interconnection network. Not surprisingly, problems that best utilize local memory tend to achieve better performance than those that make more frequent accesses to host memory. Systems that access fast local memory and slower shared memory are often referred to as NUMA, nonuniform memory access, architecture. [Pg.96]

The enteric nervous system (see Chapter 6 Introduction to Autonomic Pharmacology) is composed of interconnected networks of ganglion cells and nerve fibers mainly located in the submucosa (submucosal plexus) and between the circular and longitudinal muscle layers (myenteric plexus). These networks give rise to nerve fibers that connect with the mucosa and deep muscle. Although extrinsic sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves project onto the submucosal and myenteric plexuses, the enteric nervous system can independently regulate gastrointestinal motility and secretion.
