Liquid leakage

Turndown ratio is the ratio of the maximum allowable vapor rale at or near flooding conditions (rates) to the minimum vapor rate when weeping or liquid leakage becomes significant it may be termed the minimum allowable vapor velocity [193, 199, 200]. [Pg.155]

The lower limit of the operating range occurs when liquid leakage through the plate holes becomes excessive. This is known as the weep point. The vapour velocity at the weep point is the minimum value for stable operation. The hole area must be chosen so that at the lowest operating rate the vapour flow velocity is still well above the weep point. [Pg.571]

Where water will create a serious fire or personnel hazard, a suitable nonwater automatic extinguishing system should be considered. Penetrations through fire-rated floor, ceiling, and wall assemblies by pipes, conduits, bus ducts, cables, wires, air ducts, pneumatic tubes and ducts, and similar building service equipment should be protected in accordance with NFPA 101 , Life Safety Code. All floor openings should be sealed or curbed to prevent liquid leakage to lower floors. Door assemblies in 1 -hour rated fire barriers should be y4-hour rated. Door assemblies in 2-hour rated fire barriers should be 1 V2-hour rated. [Pg.309]

LEAKAGE AND WEEP HOLES. To ensure a minimum of liquid leakage from one tray to another, bubble-cap risers should be fitted firmly or sealed into the trays, and an effective seal is necessary around the tray supports. In large columns, the trays are often made in sections for ease of installation. Each of these sections must be installed carefully to minimize leakage. [Pg.683]

Bubble cap trays are commonly used to provide mass or heat transfer between liquid and vapor streams. Its advantages include minimum liquid leakage, wide range of operating rates, reasonable cost, and usefulness at very low liquid rates. [Pg.269]

The effect of liquid leakage from the tray is more important for stripping trays than for rectifying trays. For stripping trays, liquid leakage carries more volatile components toward the draw point for the less volatile product, thus reducing the effectiveness of the stripper. Fortunately, for most bubble cap trays, there is no tray leakage of consequence. [Pg.278]

Table 6 shows the lower value of E for different liquid heights on the tray. This is the point at which liquid leakage through the valves begins. Values lower than that shown indicate leakage. This check does not calculate direct leakage rates. [Pg.757]

Of course, the opposite phenomenon occurs with hydrophilic liquid filters where air bubbles are present in the liquid process stream it is called "air-binding". Often a hydrophobic vent-filter will be used in conjunction with the main hydrophilic membrane filter to allow escape of accumulated air without permitting liquid leakage. [Pg.116]

It is desirable to place the draw-off nozzle in a portion of the tray floor that is lowered to form a sump. This lowers the height of liquid on the chimney tray by an amount equal to the nozzle diameter and reduces liquid leakage and the mass of liquid that the tray must support. The outlet nozzle should be flush with the sump floor to ensure adequate drainage. This practice is particularly fruitful in leak-tight applications, because it eliminates th> need for weep holes. [Pg.107]

Envelope types of downcomers (Fig. 6.14c and d) are sometimes used in low-liquid-load applications. They are often used to satisfy the minimum downcomer width criterion or to minimize liquid leakage. In moderate- and high-liquid-load applications, minimum downcomer width and liquid leakage are rarely mqjor factors, and this type of downcomer is seldom used. [Pg.173]

In valve and sieve trays, no positive liquid head is maintained on the tray, and liquid leakage is seldom a problem. For this reason, no gaskets are generally required and leakage tests are not carried out. Occasionally, however, a leakage problem may occur in low-liquid-rate applications, and gasketing may be required (237). [Pg.205]

Avoid trays equipped with turned-down nibs when liquid leakage is critical... [Pg.618]

Explosions from liquefied gas pipes, gasoline tanks, chemical processes of industry, gas inside mines, coal dust, and all explosive materials are chemical explosions. The explosion caused by mixtures of inflammable liquid leakage and air is also chemical one. All staffs, which can have chemical explosions, are named explosives. If the used staff is in liquid or sol-gel, this is the explosion from liquid explosive materials. This chapter studies the explosion variation law and features of liquid explosive materials. [Pg.18]

A solid protonic electrolyte battery presents the general advantages of all solid-state systems such as absence of liquid leakage and ease of handling. It must have two electrodes to react with the protons, as in aqueous liquid electrolyte batteries. The main aim for using solid protonic conductors resides in the possibility of using similar electrodes to those in current commercial batteries. [Pg.539]

Special attention has to be paid to flow spectrophotometric cuvettes, since they have metric six (M6) thread, with similar measures to /4"-28. A common mistake is trying to thread an FIA screw to a spectrophotometric cuvette what leads to liquid leakage and thread forced when trying to avoid the latter. [Pg.112]
