Tlie indi ddual cells are assembled into batteries after a leakage test to check for faulty welding joints in steel containers or cracks and improper seals in the plastic encased cells. Cells that are to be delivered without electroltye are emptied after the fomiation cycles. Tlie steel-cased cells hav e to be separated by mechanical means to prevent intercell shorts and are often assembled into wooden crates. Tlie cells in plastic cases can be cemented together or strapped with tape.

HEPA filters consist of a filter pack sealed into a case. The filter pack or core is made by pleating a continuous web of fiberglass paper back and forth over corrugated separators. The filter pack is sealed into a full-depth wood or steel casing using a elastomeric sealant. Gasketing is a critical item to ensure that the filter passes the air leakage tests. 

The question of relative rates of seal leakage and permeation (cf. points 1 and 3) has been considered by MERE. For the sealing of HPHT (5000 psi, ca. 345 bar, or 34.5 MPa 100°C) fluids with chevron seal-stack systems used at the bottom of oil wells in intermittently dynamic conditions, high-pressure permeation and seal-leakage tests using the equipment outlined in Section 23.3.1.2 have been conducted it has been shown that methane gas permeation rate was only ca. 1 % of the rate... 

Leakage testing must be done with 30 second or one minute smoke candles placed approximately 20 centimeters inside the hood. Any visible escape of smoke should be considered indicative of unacceptable performance.

As a result of KU s know-how in this field, the guaranteed shutdown period for converting a 340 000 metric tonne per year NaOH plant from mercury to membrane technology was as short as 8 weeks. This was made possible by a new conversion concept the individual elements were assembled in an adjoining assembly hall and installed in cell racks of 72 elements each. In this way, more than 2600 elements were assembled and installed in 18 two-rack electrolysers, and pressure and leakage tested. Leakage Test This test is mandatory for ophthalmic ointments, which evaluates the intactness of the ointment tube and its seal. Ten sealed containers are selected, and their exterior surfaces are cleaned.They are horizontally placed over absorbent blotting paper and maintained at 60 3 °C for 8 h. The test passes if leakage is not observed from any tube. If leakage is observed, the test is repeated with an additional 20 tubes.
