Liquid feed supplements

Calcium chloride has several industrial applications. The major applications of this compound are in deicing of roads, dust control, imparting stability to roads and buildings, and to improve traction in tractor tires. It is mixed with ice to make freezing mixtures. Hexahydrate mixed with crushed ice can lower the temperature of the cooling bath to below -50°C. It also is used as a desiccant for dehydrating gases and liquids. It is added to cement in various proportions to manufacture different types of concrete. Other uses are in adhesives, to lower gel temperatures, and as a calcium source in liquid feed supplements for dairy cattle. Also, the compound is used to control particle size development and reduce coalescence in plastics. [Pg.162]

Urea is used as a feed supplement for cattle, up to 8 lb/yr per head of cattle. In liquid fertilizers, urea raises the upper limit for stable nitrogen solutions. In solids it prevents caking due to the formation of ammonium chloride in mixtures of ammonium and potassium fertilizers. Ureaforms which are condensates of urea and formaldehyde, can be used as time-release fertilizers when it is desired to release fertilizing urea at a controlled rate, such as on a golf course [8]. The main use of solid, prilled urea is as side-dressing. [Pg.102]

By far the most important use of phosphoric acid is in the production of fertilizers. At least four major types of fertilizers are made from phosphoric acid diammonium phosphate ((NH4)2HP04 DAP), monoammonium phosphate (NH4H2P04 MAP), granulated triple superphosphate (GTSP), and superphosphoric acid, the only liquid among the group. An additional 5 percent of the phosphoric acid produced is used as an animal feed supplement. [Pg.567]

Because silicas can be manufactured to conform to food-grade regulations, they can be used to absorb essential oils, flavors, and feed supplements such as choline chloride and vitamin E oil. The absorption of pesticides is also a major application. Often the liquid is released when the powder comes into contact with water, owing to the higher affinity of the silica surface for water than for the absorbed liquid. Potential benefits include more... [Pg.783]

Urea is used as a cattle feed supplement where it is a cheap source of protein. It is used both in prill form (microprill at 0,2/0.4 mm diameter) and as a liquid in a mixture of urea ( 75% solution), molasses, and phosphoric acid. It is the feed material for melamine plastic and for various glues. The glues are either urea-formaldehyde or urea-melamine-formaldehyde. TTie latter is waterproof and is used for marine plywood. [Pg.258]

Some antibiotics are produced in batch fermentation tanks in the presence of a particular fungus or bacterium. The culture frequently is filtered from the medium and marketed in cake or liquid form as an animal feed supplement. The antibiotic is extracted from the culmre medium through the use of solvents, activated carbon, etc. The antibiotic is then washed to remove residual impurities, concentrated, filtered, and packaged. [Pg.241]

As aforementioned, improvements in the ionic liquids field led to greener alternatives such as the use of ammonium, phosphonium, or sulfo-nium cations. The selection of benign cations, such as cholinium, constitutes, still today, one of the most important advances toward their conscious design. The quaternary ammonium salt, cholinium chloride, classified as a provitamin in Europe and widely used as animal feed supplement, has been extensively investigated for electrochemical applications [30, 31]. Cholinium chloride environmental sustainability is also made known by the synthesis process a one step solvent-free reaction of hydrogen chloride, ethylene oxide and trimethylamine. [Pg.1118]

Ammonia is easily liquefied, and the liquid is used as a nitrogen fertilizer. Ammonium salts, such as the sulfate and nitrate, are also sold as fatilizers. Large quantities of ammonia are converted to urea, NH2CONH2, which is used as a fertilizer, as a livestock feed supplement, and in the manufacture of urea—formaldehyde plastics. Ammonia is also the starting compound for the preparation of most other nitrogen compounds. [Pg.931]

At the present time, butane is also used to supplement liquid steam cracker feeds. Considered independently at very high severity (95 per cent conversion), it allows z final ethylene yield of 35 molar per cent after ethane recycling. [Pg.130]

The yeast produced by continuous culture techniques is separated from the liquid medium and solvent washed by centrifugation or filtration techniques. After drying, a protein supplement is obtained, which contains 65-68% protein and is suitable for addition to animal feeds. This protein content compares very favorably with that of dry fish meal, which contains about 65%, and dry skim milk powder with about 32%. The SCP processes have operated on the thousands of tonne/year scale in the U.K., France, and Italy, but regulatory problems with facilities operating on unpurified gas oil feedstocks have caused some shutdowns [64]. Nevertheless, because of a cell mass doubling time of 2.5-3 hr and the efficient carbon conversion to protein of this technology, these developments deserve to be explored further. [Pg.543]
