Linear alkylbenzene sulfonates laundry detergents

The major surfactants used in laundry detergents have traditionally been linear alkylbenzene sulfonates, alcohol... [Pg.326]

Applications. Linear alkylbenzene sulfonate is a very cost-effective surfactant which is extensively used in a broad variety of detergents for household, fabric care, institutional, and industrial products. lii laundry products (powders and liquids), LAS is generally the workhorse surfactant of choice, usually used in combination with other anionic or nonionic surfactants. LAS is also an appropriate anionic surfactant for light-duty and delicate powder laundry detergents. [Pg.15]

Laundry detergents are generally composed of linear alkylbenzene sulfonates (LAS) and alcohol ethoxylates (AE) plus enzymes, builders, and possibly a bleach. The major surfactants are well known for their particulate- and oil-re-moving properties, respectively, plus low cost and safety. [Pg.71]

Several bio-based surfactants are being produced on an industrial scale today. Methyl ester sulfonates (MBS), derived from coconut or palm FAME (Figure 10.2), are bio-based replacements for petroleum-derived linear alkylbenzene sulfonates (LAS) in cold-water laundry detergents found in commercial products such as Care Coldwash (Danlind,... [Pg.246]

Alkylbenzene sulfonates (R-C6H5-S03Na) are important surfactant compounds used in laundry detergents. Alkylbenzenes (made by the Friedel-Crafts alkylation of benzene using linear olefin molecules that have about twelve carbon atoms) are sulfonated, and the sulfonic acids are then neutralized with NaOH. [Pg.230]
