Many thousands of lights bum continuously in this land of hidden cities warm conditioned air flows through arterial channels of concrete and limestone. Shells painted a gay yellow rock endlessly on a conveyor belt, to be stacked in a twenty-foot honeycomb, or to be shipped to a theatre of war. 

The low-volatility, flame-resistant phosphoric acid esters have maintained their position in products subjected to high levels of mechanical strain such as conveyor belts. Triphenyl phosphate, used only for molding compounds made of cellulose esters, is a practically noncombustible product that is not soluble in benzine. Tricresyl phosphate (TCP) is a flame-retardant plasticizer for PVC products subjected to heavy mechanical stress. The esters of the aliphatic dicarboxylic acids (adipic, azelaic, and sebacic acid) are used as plasticizers for PVC and PVAC. These products are resistant to cold and light. The esters of higher fatty acids such as pelargonates, laurates, palmitates, stearates, and ricinoleates are, strictly speaking, not plasticizers, but are rather used as extenders, secondary plasticizers, or lubricants. 

Applications. The principal electrical applications include hookup wire, interconnecting wire, coaxial cable, computer wire, thermocouple wire, plenum cable, and molded electrical parts. Principal chemical applications are lined pipes and fittings, over-braided hose, heat exchangers, and laboratory ware. Mechanical uses include antistick applications, such as conveyor belts and roll covers. A recent development of FEP film for solar collector windows takes advantage of light weight, excellent weatherability, and high solar transmission. Solar collectors made of FEP film are efficient, and installation is easy and inexpensive. 

The belt segment is approximately the same size as the hose segment, 6 billion dollars worldwide in 2010. Conveyor belts (or large belts) are used as an efficient conveyance system for ores and mineral deposits for both surface and underground mining.
