Life-cycle of systems

Another problem of EGAs is that they are non-site-specific. The reasons for this lie in the fact that they include the whole life cycle of systems with resources which may originate in different countries and waste products and emissions which may distribute globally. They deal with factual inputs, outputs and the environmental impact potentials of the system under investigation on a global, and, in some cases, regional scale. Yet, they do not address the intrinsic risks resulting from the system itself. However, a combination with risk assessment methods can be used to close this gap. [Pg.251]

In the standard besides requirements to systems also requirements for responsible persons influencing safety at each stage of the life cycle of systems, subsystems and complex systems or safety systems, and to their actions for reduction of influence of a subjective factor are established. [Pg.478]

Safe design attempts to achieve an acceptable mishap risk through a systematic application of guidance obtained from standards, specifications, regulations, handbooks, checklists, and other sources. Safe-design needs derive from the selected parameters and associated acc eptanc e criteria. The life cycle of systems includes design, research, development, evaluation, production, inventory, operational support, and disposal. Probabilistic fault tolerance adds redundancy to equipment and systems. [Pg.71]

The functional safety plan is intended to describe the application of the lEC 61508 standard in the context of the project in particular, the documentation, activities, organization, and tools put in place to deal with functional safety aspects during the life cycle of system development... [Pg.459]

Implementation of advanced performance degradation models, necessitate the inclusion of advanced instrumentation and sensors such as pyrometers for monitoring hot section components, dynamic pressure transducers for detection of surge and other flow instabilities such as combustion especially in the new dry low NO combustors. To fully round out a condition monitoring system the use of expert systems in determining fault and life cycle of various components is a necessity. [Pg.647]

Additionally, the tools in CCPS (1994a) can be used to build inherently safer human systems for each stage of the chemical process life cycle. Human systems include... [Pg.98]

The subject of the study can be either a single energy-using device, such as a pump, or an entire ventilation system with all its components. A study focuses on the life cycle of the system or device, and normally is a comparison of two or more alternatives. The goal is to find the most economical solution on the basis of the total costs (investment and operation). [Pg.1373]

System life The duration of the life cycle of an item of equipment or a complete system. [Pg.1479]

The QSR major new requirements are in the areas of design, management responsibility, purchasing, and servicing. It encompasses quality system requirements that apply to the entire life cycle of a device. [Pg.642]

Perform total system safety management throughout life cycle of all assigned systems, subsystems and equipment... [Pg.743]

In the forthcoming Hazop standard (IEC 61882, 1999) the Hazop studies are recommended to be carried out throughout the life cycle of a system. But for the concept and definition phase of a system s life cycle other basic methods are suggested (see Fig. 3). [Pg.24]

The /.gtl 1 system is a more sophisticated bacteriophage version of the plasmid system described above and has been used to isolate many different antigens from various stages in the life cycle of the human malarial parasite using human immune sera as well as antigens from pathogens. [Pg.429]

Effective design of a remediation system for dissolved hydrocarbons in groundwater requires consideration of more than only the effectiveness of the technological process involved. At many sites a variety of techniques are capable of completing the cleanup. However, design of a project that is efficient in all aspects — technically, in terms of time, and economically — requires an evaluation of the entire life cycle of the project from inception to closure. Typically, at sites where remediation is expected to continue over a 4-year project life, operation and maintenance account for between 50 and 80% of the total project cost. These percentages increase each year thereafter. The principal components of operation and maintenance are power, labor, and parts. Identification and quantification of these components are critical to the overall cost of a project. [Pg.344]

All processes involved in the life cycle of a neurotransmitter, i.e. its synthesis, storage, release, reuptake, degradation and effects at the receptor, can be influenced and modulated by drugs. Depending on the assumed direction of the abnormality in a given disorder, the aim is to improve the function of the respective neurotransmitter system, i.e. to either increase or decrease its level of activity. Many of the conceivable possibilities at influencing neurotransmission are currently being used as powerful pharmacotherapies. [Pg.125]

Filters used in the system (commonly at point of use) should be included in a routine filter integrity testing program. Establish the life cycle of the filters to maintain the system. [Pg.227]

PERO Innovative Services has developed the equipment and the peripheral devices in such a way that they optimally adapt to the desired cleaning process and minimise the costs during the complete life cycle of the equipment (according to LCC - Life Cycle Costing, formerly accurately related to as TCO - Total Costs of Ownership, since traditional accounting systems in most cases regard a period which is too short, as the costs as well as the benefits of the system incur over a long time utilisation of the equipment). [Pg.37]

There are several bodies of information that feed into our understanding of stellar nucleosynthesis. We will start with a discussion of the classification of stars, their masses and mass distributions, and their lifetimes. From this information we can assess the relative importance of different types of stars to the nucleosynthesis of the elements in our solar system and in the galaxy. We will then discuss the life cycles of stars to give a framework for the discussion of nucleosynthesis processes. Next, we will review the nuclear pathways... [Pg.60]

A consensus vision statement was drafted at the July 2003 ICH meeting with regard to the objective of the ICH in harmonizing the efforts of regulatory bodies to establish quahty systems approaches in their operations Develop a harmonized pharmaceutical quality system applicable across the life cycle of the product emphasizing an integrated approach to quality risk management and science. ... [Pg.333]

The extent of validation necessary will depend on a number of factors, including the use to which the system is to be put, whether the validation is to be prospective or retrospective, and whether novel elements are incorporated. Validation should be considered as part of the complete life cycle of a computer system. This cycle... [Pg.830]
