Lean concepts applicability

In the following, a review of the traditional and novel concepts of catalytic combustion for GTs is addressed, with emphasis on the requirements and challenges that the different applications open to catalysis. The most relevant characteristics of PdO-supported catalysts and of transition metal-substituted hexaaluminates (which have been most extensively considered for lean combustion applications) are described, along with those of noble metal catalysts adopted in rich combustion systems. [Pg.364]

Project 10, an example of Lean Engineering Education at De La Salle University, involved the application of lean concepts and tools to improve the production process of a soap manufacturing company. [Pg.103]

Lean Concepts Opportunities for Safety Professionals Applied lean concepts are to eliminate waste, improve efficiency, and lower production costs. Elements of waste that should be addressed in the lean process are the direct and ancillary costs of accidents. This chapter Discusses the origin of lean concepts and how broadly they are being applied Gives examples of lean applications in which hazards and risks were not addressed Comments on the opportunity for effective involvement in lean initiatives by safety professionals and Outlines a unique merging of lean and safety through design concepts. An Addendum offers A Simplified Initial Value Stream Map To Identify Waste (Muda) and Opportunities for Continuous Improvement (Kaizen). [Pg.4]

Efficient material movement is essential in lean concepts and ergonomics applications can reduce the cost of the process by eliminating unnecessary motions and reducing risks. [Pg.440]

Lean concepts are applied to reduce waste and accidents are a form of waste to be avoided. Guidance is given for safety professional as they become involved in lean applications for existing facilities and in the design processes. [Pg.608]

The active layer must provide the required activity, selectivity and thermochemical stability properties. Different active phases can be adopted depending on the operating constraints and the fuel type. In the following we will mainly focus on CH4 (i.e. the main constituent of natural gas) as the reference fuel for GT applications. In this respect, the combustion catalysts that have been most extensively investigated for configurations based on lean combustion concepts are PdO-based systems and metal-substituted hexaaluminates. [Pg.376]

A chief goal of this book is to help the reader understand controls on the chemical quality of surface-and subsurface-waters, both pristine and polluted. The focus is on inorganic processes and on the chemistry of soil and groundwaters, with less said about the chemistry of precipitation, surface-waters, or the ocean. The book leans heavily on the principles of chemical thermodynamics and the concept of chemical equilibrium. Chemical equilibrium, whether attainable or not, represents the reference state for purposes of explaining the concentrations of aqueous species in the hydrosphere. Concepts of chemical kinetics are introduced when they are known and seem applicable. [Pg.613]

Many companies undertake training of employees in the concepts and tools shown in Table 24.1. Much of this time is wasted without application to a process improvement effort. Supply chain improvement efforts are a good way to introduce Design Team members to process documentation as part of lean. Six Sigma, Total Quality initiatives, or unlabeled efforts. Process documentation and analysis skill is the core competency for these initiatives. [Pg.286]

Conjugated linoleic acid applications may be roughly divided into two major areas. The first is as a diet/ health supplement for humans. The second application is as a supplement in animal feed to inaease the CLA content in milk, eggs or meat products and/or to improve the visual or textural properties of meat or meat products sold to the consumer. The latter application has assumed inaeasing importance over the last decade, with CLA supplementation utilized to improve such commercial concepts as visual appeal (marbling) in cut meats, decreased fat/increased lean meat content and improved backfat firmness. [Pg.4]

Illustrate how the 5S concept (a program that focuses on organization, cleanliness, and standardization to improve profitability, efficiency, service and safety) is foundational in a lean application and how hazards and risks are reduced through 5S applications. [Pg.256]

Other safety professionals have recognized the dearth of information in the lean literature on how both safety and lean might be integrated. They have also encountered situations where safety concepts and lean applications were in conflict, with the results being far from satisfactory. [Pg.265]

This Technical Report is an excellent resource for safety professionals who want to understand how the lean process and safety principles can be melded to serve waste reduction purposes while maintaining acceptable risk levels. It provides guidance from the initial concept stage for design and redesign and addresses operational waste reduction applications. [Pg.266]
