Momentum breaks

When the flare has dropped the combined length of the hangwire, tear-wire, tear-wire cord, sleeve, and shrouds, its momentum breaks the tear-wire, allowing the flare to drop. It is stabilized in flight by its fins and sleeve. The arming vane on the fuze rotates to arm the fuze a maximum of 3 seconds after release when released at speeds of 200 mph or higher... [Pg.958]

An SCM improvement program should create momentum, break down the scope into manageable pieces, and explicitly manage the cultural and skill change necessary to ensure sustainability and continuous improvement. In addition, top management conviction and support are unshirkable prerequisites for success. [Pg.294]

Another more common example of a momentum break is the use of flange guards placed around flange joints in piping systems handling sulfuric acid or strong caustic. They knock down the liquid spray from a small leak, to prevent personnel injury, and also change color to indicate the leak location. [Pg.34]

Experimental data on nitrogen obtained from spin-lattice relaxation time (Ti) in [71] also show that tj is monotonically reduced with condensation. Furthermore, when a gas turns into a liquid or when a liquid changes to the solid state, no breaks occur (Fig. 1.17). The change in density within the temperature interval under analysis is also shown in Fig. 1.17 for comparison. It cannot be ruled out that condensation of the medium results in increase in rotational relaxation rate primarily due to decrease in free volume. In the rigid sphere model used in [72] for nitrogen, this phenomenon is taken into account by introducing the factor g(ri) into the angular momentum relaxation rate... [Pg.48]

Figure 41. Selective bond breaking of H2O by means of the quadratically chirped pulses with the initial wave packets described in the text. The dynamics of the wavepacket moving on the excited potential energy surface is illustrated by the density, (a) The initail wave packet is the ground vibrational eigen state at the equilibrium position, (b) The initial wave packet has the same shape as that of (a), but shifted to the right, (c) The initail wave packet is at the equilibrium position but with a directed momentum toward x direction. Taken from Ref. [37]. (See color insert.)... Figure 41. Selective bond breaking of H2O by means of the quadratically chirped pulses with the initial wave packets described in the text. For large enough asymmetries the homogeneous state becomes unstable towards formation of either the LOFF phase - a superconducting state with nonzero center-of-mass momentum of the Cooper pairs, or the DFS phase - a superconducting state which requires a quadrapole deformation of Fermi surfaces. A combined treatment of these phases in non-relativistic systems shows that while the LOFF phase corresponds to a local minimum, the DFS phase has energy lower that the LOFF phase. These phases break either the rotational, the translational or both symmetries. [Pg.222]

There are two Fermi seas for a given quark number with different volumes due to the exchange splitting in the energy spectrum. The appearance of the rotation symmetry breaking term, oc p U 4 in the energy spectrum (16) implies deformation of the Fermi sea so rotation symmetry is violated in the momentum space as well as the coordinate space, 0(3) —> 0(2). Accordingly the Fermi sea of majority quarks exhibits a prolate shape (F ), while that of minority quarks an oblate shape (F+) as seen Fig. 1 3. ... [Pg.246]
