Lead by Example

Some readers will say to themselves, that sounds like a level of perfection that doesn t exist in the real world. Not true. You wouldn t accept an occasional shortage in your paycheck would you Subordinates are entitled to expect the same kind of consistency. Yes, there will be some bad apples in every barrel, but they carmot and should not be used to define all the rest of the apples. One of the most transcendent elements of human society is to aspire to ideals that may not be attainable 100% of the time but nonetheless are very much worth striving for 100% of the time.

Follow established safety policies. Incident investigation team members should lead by example by strictly following site safety policies. 

Take on the mantle of management -1 am a negotiator at different levels, leading by example. 

Structural leaders do homework rethink the relationship of structure, strategy, and environment and focus on implementation. Management leads by example—if quality is number one, it is number one on management s agenda and decisions are made accordingly. 

The proliferation of nuclear weapons rightly remains a major global concern. While there may be geopolitical merit in European countries leading by example (for instance, by unilaterally removing highly enriched uranium and separated plutonium from their civil nuclear activities), it is important to note that all EU countries are robust in their measures to prevent proliferation. X Avoid excuses — If you want employees, drivers, and line-supervisors to be accountable for safety, then you must lead by example. This means holding yourself responsible for the overall results of your safety program. 

Safety manager is responsible for being constantly visible and leading by example. You need to be an enthusiastic advocate of your policies. You are also responsible for developing and implementing your safety policies. 

Leading by example A carrier decides to develop and implement a driver/employee suggestion program in an effort to increase involvement and participation in the company. 

Through leading by example, drivers and other employees will learn immediately that top management is serious and committed to meeting the needs of your drivers. 

Lead by example and personally adhere to hazard control requirements. 

There are many traits that are common in leaders. Passion for their vision is one of those, and this must be one of the traits that you exhibit as a leader in safety. You must be honest and trustworthy to be a safety leader and you must be able to motivate people to do their jobs in a safe manner. You must lead by example so that you always follow safety procedures every time you enter the laboratory. Always wear appropriate safety gear, and always consider safety in all that you do. Overall, you should be one who has adopted the safety ethic (see Figure 1.3.1.1) so that you not only believe in the value of safety but you strive to ensure that safety becomes an integral part of your everyday life.

It is important to note that appropriate personal protective equipment should be made available to visitors and other members of the public when visiting workplaces where hazardous substances are being used. It is also important to stress that managers and supervisors must lead by example, particularly if there is a legal requirement to wear particular personal protective equipment. Refusals by employees to wear mandatory personal protective equipment must lead to some form of disciplinary action. 

It s often been said, You are what you do, not what you say Leading by example is the best measure of commitment. Vince Lombardi once said, It s not whether yon get knocked down, but whether or not you get back up. Commitment and continuous improvement go hand in glove. Not unlike encouragement, commitment is a gift we give each other. 

Inspire people so that they want to be safe - transparent communication to build tin honest tind trustworthy relationship. Lead by example, supporting safety in their actions and in their investments in time and resources. 

Managers will need to lead by example, for instance if there is a requirement for fire doors to be closed in specified locations on site, senior managers will always be seen closing them. Similarly if the policy of the organisation is to encourage the active participation of employees the senior managers behaviour will reflect that policy in their dealings with staff. 

It is necessary for managers and occupational health and safety management experts to not only adopt modern trends in the field of occupational health and safety, but to also lead by example in their work to achieve these goals. Their task is to... 

In order to fulfill these responsibilities, it is necessary for managers and specialists in the field of occnpational health and safety management to know the trends in the field and to lead by example in their profession. Their task is to influence the implementation of and adherence to the rnles of occupational health and safety, with the help of information, communication, training, and thorough supervision. It is expected that they will associate themselves with the principles of occupational health and safety management and that they will be willing to listen to their coworkers opinions. To execute these activities, it is absolutely necessary that they systematically study and provide education for aU of the workers they oversee.
