Layout plot plan

Marked items marked are considered minimum data required for a HAZOP or What-If review to occur. This data basically contains the layout (plot plan) of the facility, the process design (P ID and process description) and how it will be controlled during an emergency (SAFE chart and fire protection plant). With this information the "experts" can understand the design and operating principles of the facility. Since the emergency isolation, depressurization and fire protection features are provided, it can be readily deduced how the facility will fare from a catastrophic incident.

Study of the Plot Plan Layout From the plot plan layout the number of safety valves in different process areas, the set pressures of safety valves, individual relieving loads of safety valves, relieving temperature of vapors, the nature of vapors (i.e., whether corrosive, condensable, or dry) are noted.

Liston (Ref. 27) provides useful checklists for equipment and building siting and layout for safety purposes, as well as other safety-related criteria for plant design. These checklists address economic considerations and facility geographical location, site selection, layout, and unit plot planning factors.

Preliminary plot plans and conceptual equipment layouts must be developed during the Phase 0/Phase 1 work in order to determine the plot requirements and help the estimators visualize the proposed facilities and prepare realistic cost estimates. 

Figure 7-6 shows a plan of the feed gas compressor area for a 200,000 tons per year ethylene unit. Main pipe runs are also shown. It is an In-Line-Layout with equipment in process flow sequence. The large diameter gas lines directly interconnect process equipment. On the complete plot plan, equipment (including compressors) is arranged on both sides of a central yard in process flow sequence. Pumps are located at their point of suction and are lined up under the yard. A parallel road is arranged to every line of equipment for convenient construction and maintenance access. 

Plot Plan Layout Aid. The plot plan will be a major aid in the design and layout of the various sewer systems. It will indicate the locations of all the various pumps, exchangers, tanks and towers. It will also indicate the extent of paved areas, roadways, undei ound utilities (water and electric) and the locations and inverts of the various sewer tie-ins to the sewer mains at the battery limits.
