As a consequence of the irregular and rough structure of the xylan particles, entanglements between particles are promoted and this fact may explain the poor flow properties of this polymer (Kumar et al., 2002 Nunthanid et al., 2004). Additionally, rheological parameters of xylan powder have also been studied, such as bulk and tapped densities, Hausner ratio, Carr s index, and angle of repose values, and they are summarized in Table 1. 

The use of protoplasts in studies of stress physiology and biochemistry expands the advantages of cell culture systems discussed in the preceding sections. Additional applications are related to the fusion of protoplasts. Intraspecifie and interspecific protoplast fusion greatly enhance genetic variability of the fused protoplasts (Kumar Cocking, 1987). The resulting somatic hybrids provide cells which can be used for selection of specific traits (e.g. environmental stress tolerance) provided by one or both donor cells and for basic studies on cytoplasmic and nuclear inheritance of desired characteristics. 

High modulus blends can be developed by mixing TPU with acetal copolymer (trioxane ethylene oxide copolymers) [242-244]. The highly crystalline acetal forms a second continuous phase. Kumar et al. studied behavior of such blends [245]. TPU retains none of its physical properties after immersion in water at 70°C for three weeks. The hydrolysis resistance of TPU can be improved by blending with polycarbodiimides [246]. Two parts of carbodiimide with TPU offer 87% retention of its strength, 93% of elongation, and 75% of modulus under the same... 

Kumar et al. have studied the miUing behavior of brominated isobutylene-co-p-methyl styrene (BIMS) and its blends with EPDM [40]. Using the theoretical model of Tokita, they have tried to optimize the rmU parameters. They measured the critical nip-gap at which a front-to-back roll transition takes place. The natural killer cells (NK) are the host s primary innate immune responders against viral infections. Studies have shown morphine to suppress the cytolytic activity of NK cells (Shavit et al. 2004). In vivo studies carried out in the Indian rhesus macaques looked at chronic morphine administration and SIV the equivalent of HIV in apes. This group concluded that morphine contributed to the pathogenesis of Simian Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV) infection and that this contribution occurred in conjunction with the replication of viral proteins including Tat (Noel and Kumar 2006 Noel et al. 2006).
