The initial step is to identify which database, from a few thousands worldwide (about 10 000 in 2002), provides the requested information. The next step is to determine which subsection of the topic is of interest, and to identify typical search terms or keywords (synonyms, homonyms, different languages, or abbreviations) (Table 5-1). During the search in a database, this strategy is then executed (money is charged for spending time on some chemical databases). The resulting hits may be further refined by combining keywords or database fields, respectively, with Boolean operators (Table 5-2). The final results should be saved in electronic or printed form. [Pg.230]

The keyword is in the route section, line 1 of the input file. Lines 2, 3, and 4 are blank, comment, blank, respectively. Line 5 designates a charge of 1 and a spin multiplicity of 2 (a doublet). When a resume is scanned into applicant-tracking software, it s put through a scanner, which takes the entire document and converts it into digital form. The software then picks apart the resume, word for word, looking for specific keywords and phrases. For this process to work, the scanner must be able to read your resume clearly. Since the second edition of this dictionary was published in 1999, Internet search engines have become much more powerful and they complement printed works such as this. Historical material on the chemical industry (before about 1980) is poorly covered on the Internet, although the coverage is improving. Current information on established commercial processes is well covered by the Internet, which is used as a sales tool by process developers, but it needs to be accessed by combinations of keywords. Also, check all the BASIC keywords to make sure they re spelled correctly. You may have mistakenly abbreviated LEN as L SHIFT-E (which turns out to be the abbreviation for LET, not LEN). The first bug, truncated lines, is relatively easy to find. It usually occurs when keywords are abbreviated.
