International Seismic Application

International Seismic Application Technology (ISAT), with headquarters in La Mirada, California, uses earthquake engineers to do site studies and to design seismic-restraint systems for plumbing, air-conditioning ducts, and electrical systems in buildings.

Although the internal clocks in OBS data loggers are synchronized to an external time signal (e.g., GPS) before launching and after retrieving the instrument, the clock can stop before the final synchronization or an incorrect reference time can be recorded during one of the synchronizations. The offset between the internal clock and the external signal after recovery ( skew ) must be corrected, as many applications (e.g., active seismics and event localization) rely on a precise common time base of aU stations. 

This is where the specific application, seismic PSA, becomes reminiscent of its more general parent, namely, level 1 PSA for internal events. In level 1 PSA risk-relevant accident progression sequences are modeled by event trees, and the potential combinations of component failures leading to unavailability of safety systems called upon during the accident progression sequences are modeled by fault trees.
