Ongoing studies

It is generally assumed that adequate vitamin levels in humans can be obtained through a balanced diet. However, ongoing studies continue to indicate that the majority of the U.S. population is not receiving even the RDA through diet. Supplementary vitamins are thus provided for fortification of foods (20) and as oral or parenteral dosage forms. 

When BlkPdr is used as a pressed grain, surface normal burning rates can be defined. These studies continue as an important tool in examining the complexities of the burning mechanism. These and other properties of various BlkPdrs have been compared (Ref 72), as has the temp dependence of the burning rates. The enormous volume of published data deals, however, only with conventional, mill process, powder, while the corresponding data on the jet mill powder await the completion of ongoing studies...

The Federal Research in Progress (FEDRIP) database provides additional information from a few ongoing studies that may fill in some of the data needs identified in Section 6.8.1. These studies are summarized in Table 6-2.

In addition to HPLC/fluorescence, there are references to the use of both APCI and/or ESI with HPLC/MS for the determination of A/-methyl carbamate insecticides in a variety of matrices." Ongoing studies at the US EPA for the determination of /V-methyl carbamate insecticides in nine fmits and vegetables at the 1.0 ngg level are described below. The fruits and vegetables investigated were cranberries, peaches, blueberries, kiwi, carrots, tomatoes, potatoes, lettuce, and grapefmit juice. The purpose of including an account of this work is to illustrate why HPLC/MS/MS is the method of choice for residue work at the 1.0 ng g level, especially for difficult matrices. 

Although acquired immunity to some parasitic diseases may lower the level of infection, absolute immunity as seen in bacterial and viral infections is seldom seen in parasitic diseases. Since parasitic infections produce a wide variety of antigens because of the many life cycle phases, it is more difficult to identify a constant antigenic protein against which specific antibodies are protective. However, malaria remains a likely candidate for a vaccine and there are ongoing studies to develop one.

The Federal Research in Progress database lists ongoing studies about environmental effects of americium (FEDRIP 2000). These are shown in Table 6-7. The International Science and Technology Center (ISTC), headquartered in Moscow, which began operations on March 3, 1994, also is active in research concerning transuranic elements.
