Harmonisation activities are overseen by a steering committee comprising representatives of each of the six parties, together with observers from the WHO, the European Eree Trade Association (EFTA) and Canada. The Committee meet at least twice each year, with the location rotating between the three regions. The committee also organises major international conferences on harmonisation that are held every 2 years. [Pg.37]

Over the past 40 years, capillary electrophoresis (CE) has advanced significantly as a technique for biomolecular characterization. It has not only passed the transition from a laboratory curiosity to a mature instrumental-based method for micro-scale separation, but also emerged as an indispensable tool in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries. CE has become a method of choice in research and development (R D) for molecular characterization, and in quality control (QC) for the release of the therapeutic biomolecules. In the biopharmaceutical industry, more and more CE methods have been validated to meet International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) requirements. In this chapter, we present real industrial examples to demonstrate the role of CE in R D of pharmaceutical products. The focus in this chapter is on method development analytical control for manufacturing and release of therapeutic proteins and antibodies. [Pg.358]

In mid-1997 an international conference took place in Santa Cruz, USA, in which, for the first time, the exclusive topic was structural aspects of RNA molecules. A report covering this meeting contains an impressive graphic which shows the RNA structures, RNA/DNA complexes, and RNA/protein complexes contained in the brookhaven database as a function of the year of their publication [29]. Between 1988 and 1993 there were just 20. However, in 1996 alone no less than 41 structures appeared. These new dimensions were headed by the crystal structural elucidation of the first larger RNA molecule since the first crystal structure of tRNA in 1973 [30], the 48 nucleotide long hammerhead ribo-zyme (HHR) [31-33]. This landmark achievement was followed by a crystal structure analysis of the P4-P6-domain of a group I intron [34-36] and, more recently, a crystal structure of the hepatitis delta virus ribozyme [37]. [Pg.103]

Substantial amounts of information were drawn from presentations and papers provided by governments at various HCC meetings and international conferences over the last year. In many cases, these primary sources of information have been complemented by national reports and official governmental web sites. To the extent that the lEA has produced this report from the large pool of information provided primarily by HCC delegates, it relies on delegates for the accuracy and currency of the findings. [Pg.13]

Food irradiation is a very complex topic and has an enormous literature. Apart from thousands of journal articles and proceedings of large number of international conferences and panel meetings, its state of the art has been extensively reviewed during the course of decades by a number of noteworthy books [1-5]. The present brief chapter mainly focuses on the principles and some potential applications of food irradiation and refers to some most recent research and developments in these regards. [Pg.786]

See e.g. Proceedings of CUmax International Conferences on the Chemistry and Uses of Molybdenum , 1973 (Reading), 1976 (Oxford), 1979 (Ann Arbor), 1982 (Colorado). The proceedings to the fifth of these meetings (Newcastle, 1985) have appeared in Polyhedron, 1986, 5, 1-606. [Pg.1261]

The scene was set for a new type of scientific meeting whereby a group composed of the most well-informed experts in a given field would meet to discuss problems at their frontier, and would seek to define steps for their solution. But for the interruptions caused by the two World Wars, these international conferences on physics and chemistry have taken place almost regularly since 1911 in Brussels. They have been exceptional occasions for physicists to discuss the fundamental problems which were at the center of interest at different periods, and have stimulated the development of physical science in many ways. [Pg.6]
