Wave of the future

While professional awareness has increased, there are still hindrances to universal access in the workplace. Today almost all companies have access to the Internet, but company policy may limit usage during business hours or on company equipment Also, many countries still face prohibitive online access charges, although free market competition will take care of that in time, and Canada s no-charge policy may well be the wave of the future ... 

Field test kits have been used with success on many sites for a variety of contaminants. The types of test kits available and their continued use appear to be a wave of the future. Certainly, the skills of the sampling technician and field test kit user are two very important areas for consideration.

The future remains bright for the use of carbon materials in batteries. In the past several years, several new carbon materials have appeared mesophase pitch fibers, expanded graphite and carbon nanotubes. New electrolyte additives for Li-Ion permit the use of low cost PC based electrolytes with natural graphite anodes. Carbon nanotubes are attractive new materials and it appears that they will be available in quantity in the near future. They have a high ratio of the base plane to edge plain found in HOPG. The ultracapacitor application to deposit an electronically conductive polymer on the surface of a carbon nanotube may be the wave of the future.

The United States has tremendous resources for science and technology, and, sadly, our financial constraints are not going to get any easier, so the time is ripe for partnering. I really believe partnerships are the wave of the future. I encourage each of you to partner, and where it makes sense, partner with the government, with the ATP. 

By 1988 it was apparent that the wave of the future was the graphical interface, and DOS 4 provided users with the DOS Shell, a utility much like the Windows File Manager. Actually, DOS Shell was simply a scaled-down version of Windows (which we will look at in a minute) that allowed users to manage files, run programs, and do routine maintenance, all from a single screen. The DOS Shell even supported a mouse. (That s right, there was no ability to use a mouse within DOS before this version. Oh, how Mac lovers must have mocked Microsofties back in the dark days of 88 )... 

Small, rugged, and inexpensive devices are the wave of the future measurements will not only be taken more often, but at many more points along the process stream.

However, the fact remains that no general, systematic, absolute cure for cancer has been found, either within the mainstream or without. If a cure does indeed exist outside the mainstream, the applications have been haphazard and the results random, with no substantive, repeated clinical evidence, at least according to medical orthodoxy. Whether by design or happenstance, the opposition of medical orthodoxy to anything unorthodox has been constant, but the wall of resistance may be crumbling, for alternative medicine is viewed by many as the wave of the future.

These successes did not go unnoticed by industry. Several pharmaceutical companies (1963-1964) became interested in applications of it-electron theory to biochemistry. While it was admittedly premature, it was felt that quantum chemistry was both the wave of the future and the very matrix for rational drug design. Hiickel energies of cephalosporins could be correlated with their biological activities.While companies were applying some mathematical methods of correlation techniques in quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR), it was chiefly the Hiickel theory and various forms of semiempirical quantum mechanics that was using a large share of computer time on the IBM 7094 mainframe in 1966. 

An interesting trend that appears to presage the wave of the future in engineering thermoplastics is the current focus on polymer blending and alloying. Metals and their alloys have been coeval with the spread of civilization. Early man used available metals in their naturally occurring state. The progress of civilization was literally determined by man s ability to modify natural metals... 

This may not seem too different from the current reality, but the major difference will be the extent to which oversight exists. The executive sponsor will own the process of positioning ISEs as their talents are expanded and applied across the enterprise. Review the readiness for chemge model presented in Section 3.2.3. All the requirements for successful change are present. We ve seen executive sponsorship work, and we believe it is the wave of the future. 

Companies that understand the strategic value of complaints have instituted systems and access points that literally encourage consumers to complain. Internet access sites and e-mail addresses are the wave of the future, and companies wUl need to be prepared for the volume of contacts received in this manner. More likely today s companies have a call center at the center of their complaint-... 

The wave of the future in power generation is the combined cycle, in which gas turbines are combined with steam turbines, with the hot exhaust from the gas turbine used to generate steam. The combined cycle is a cascade of heat engines operating over temperatures from 1200-1300°C to about 30°C. This broad temperature range renders the combined cycle efficient.
