Interim Capability

LAND 125 Phase 2B (SE v.l) - this was the Interim Capability originally scoped nnder the Parallel Path strategy. This was intended to provide a range of discrete (non-integrated) equipment solutions with little if arty technical integration planned, as human factors issues were expected to be dealt with by the soldier. The SE v. 1 addressed dismoimted infantry capability shortfalls through the provision of equipment previously provided to Special Forces and proven effective (Hill, 2005). 

Hafnium neutron absorption capabilities have caused its alloys to be proposed as separator sheets to allow closer spacing of spent nuclear fuel rods in interim holding ponds. Hafnium is the preferred material of constmction for certain critical mass situations in spent fuel reprocessing plants where hafnium s excellent corrosion resistance to nitric acid is also important. 

The Clean Air Act of 1970 set new standards that went beyond the capabilities of the then existing technology, and spurred a very intensive research effort. The Clean Air Act also called for a study by the National Academy of Sciences of the technological feasibility of meeting the emission standards. On April 11, 1973 William D. Ruckelshaus, administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, announced a delay in enforcing the 1975 standard by one year, to be replaced by an interim standard for California and a more relaxed interim standard for the rest of the forty-nine states. 

A force field for solid state modeling of fluoropolymers predicted a suitable helical conformation but required further improvement in describing intermole-cular effects. Though victory cannot yet be declared, the derived force fields improve substantially on those previously available. Preliminary molecular dynamics simulations with the interim force field indicate that modeling of PTFE chain behavior can now be done in an all-inclusive manner instead of the piecemeal focus on isolated motions and defects required previously. Further refinement of the force field with a backbone dihedral term capable of reproducing the complex torsional profile of perfluorocarbons has provided a parameterization that promises both qualitative and quantitative modeling of fluoropolymer behavior in the near future. 

The purpose of the qualification/audit is for the sponsor to investigate the standard practices of the contractor. Quality as well as technical capabilities should be evaluated. One should determine where the test article will actually be stored, the department that will conduct the in-life portion, make an assessment of procedures (SOPs) for dosing, identify differences between the sponsor s general practices and the facilities operating procedures (proto-col/study-specific procedures (SSPs), and assess the process of interim data exchange and the method of reporting of SOP and protocol deviations to the study director and the sponsor. 

In an effort to find a completely satisfactory method, a number of experiments were tried with various column packings and partition liquids. In the interim, while this experimentation was being performed, two alternate gas chromatographic methods were used to obtain results. Although neither method was wholly satisfactory, both w ere capable of producing acceptable analyses. 

Preliminary data must be reported, and the time to report starts to run as soon as a person capable of appreciating the significance of the information receives it. There is no flexibility to wait imtil the final study is fully completed and reviewed. For example, evidence of reportable increases in benign tumors is often foimd in interim sacrifices during long term studies, and these increases are reportable before the long term study is finalized.

At SRS and other basins storing US defence related spent nuclear fuel, extensive efforts are under way to improve fuel storage conditions. These efforts should result in extended storage capability. This interim wet storage, however, cannot be extended indefinitely, and provisions must be made for other disposition. Laboratories ultrasonic NDE personnel. Development of the custom designed ultrasonic system has progressed well ahead of schedule with several required capabilities fully demonstrated during the review. The delivery time for the ultrasonic system is 9 months. In the interim, the quotation allows for both toll testing at Panametrics and rental of a standard Hy-scan system.
