Intent-to-leave

Assume that, as the individual enters the returning phase, he or she wants to live solely off earnings from his or her net worth plus, in the case of Scenario 2, Social Security. This approach reflects the individual s uncertainty about his or her life span, the desire to leave a large estate for others, and/or an intent to leave a legacy for special causes. This approach requires an estimate of the annual yield of the net worth at retirement. A conservative value of five percent is used in Scenario 1 and an aggressive value of nine percent is used in Scenario 2 (Hoover 2011). [Pg.311]

To measure intent to leave, students were asked to respond to the statement, Given an opportunity to enroll in the same degree program at a different but equally ranked university, I would... by indicating whether they would (a) definitely maintain enrollment at their university, (b) probably maintain enrollment at their university, (c) don t know—no opinion, (d) probably enroll at the alternative university, or (e) definitely enroll at the alternative university. This item was then dichotomized into not leave (i.e., definitely or probably maintain enrollment at their university) and leave (i.e., probably or definitely enroll elsewhere) for use in the logistic regression analysis. [Pg.111]

Unlike the theory-generating model found in exploratory factors analysis, CFA is a theory-testing model in which the researcher begins with an a priori hypothesis that specifies which variables are correlated with which factors and which factors are correlated with each other. The hypothesized relationships among the nine constructs and intent to leave were based on a strong theoretical foundation from prior research. [Pg.126]

Catherine later boasted to a friend that she d expelled the Cagliostros from Russia in 1780, but the couple actually anticipated her intention. In April 1780, armed with letters of recommendation from General Melissino and Chevalier de Corberon, the Cagliostros set off from Saint Petersburg for Warsaw, thankful to leave behind the lengthening shadow of the fortress of Saint Peter and Saint Paul. [Pg.102]

It is our hope that this book will present the reader with an appreciation of current trends in the applications of sonochemistry. The theoretical aspects of the subject are, once again, included but not emphasised. It is our intention to concentrate on the uses of sonochemistry and to leave the interested reader to find the more complex mathematical aspects from other sources. [Pg.301]

If he has any sense, Bernardo said, he s halfway to Florence already. I told him that our patience was exhausted that he was to leave our house before noon tomorrow. And I warned him that the only way he could be sure of keeping his head on his shoulders was to get both of them out of Venice with utmost dispatch, and furthermore that it was our intention to cooperate in fullest measure with the authorities. Of course he would have gone to her first, Domenico muttered reproachfully. Why didn t I see that We should have known he was lying when he denied it. ... [Pg.114]

Design or structure your experience with the intention of learning from it (as opposed to leaving developmental experiences to occur hapheizardly - a laissez-faire approach). [Pg.115]

When the bouncer compels you to leave the room by literally picking you up and tossing you into the alley, the movement of your body is explained by another s purposes, rather than your own. In interpersonal compulsion, one is subject to the intentions of someone else. This is not enough to constitute compulsion, however. Suppose you allow someone to move your arm along the table. To be a case of compulsion, the explanation must entail your inability to resist.4 A third feature is typically present as well As in the case of the bouncer, you are guided by the other s aims not only independently of your will but against it.9 When that condition is in place, you are moved, helplessly, by someone else s desires, contrary to your own.6... [Pg.4]

The Swedish government s announced intentions to ban all uses of cadmium, including in recyclable accumulators, may, in fact, increase health and environmental risks. Cadmium is always present in zinc, and it is obtained from the purification of that metal. If no sensible use can be found for cadmium, the producers will simply leave it in the zinc, resulting in extensive and diffuse emission of cadmium from corroding zinc that will be impossible to control. The regulators answers to the problems presented by cadmium-laden zinc are attempts to curb uses of zinc as well, in spite of the fact that deficiency of the essential element zinc is a public health problem. [Pg.262]

Second, when Hofmann returned to his laboratory at Sandoz Pharmaceuticals in Basel, he had brought some juice from the Salvia leaves back with him, "preserved in alcohol." When this juice was deemed by self-experiment no longer to be active, Hofmann abandoned his intention to analyze the juice for its psychoactive principle(s). Hofmann reported that the unknown active ingredient must be unstable. This belief was incorrect but tended to inhibit further research for some years. My own reports on the effectiveness of smoking the dried leaves were dismissed by a number of my colleagues. [Pg.166]

Since Bohr was not particularly happy working in the crowded Cavendish Laboratory, he decided to go to Manchester and to Rutherford. With Rutherford s encouragement, Bohr made arrangements with Thomson to leave Cambridge and transfer to Manchester. Bohr s intention was to learn the experimental techniques of radioactivity. He arrived in Manchester in March of... [Pg.33]
