Integrated testing

Although the presented results prove the efficiency of radioscopy, this system have certain characteristics which justify to develop and employ further process integrated testing systems. One of this characteristics is that the integration of radioscopy in industrial applications is doubtful because of reasons of radiation protection. This means, that the results from radioscopy should rather be used to fit other systems (acoustic emission analysis or temperature analysis) for industrial applications. 

Filters for use in sterile gas filtration must conform to standards similar to those mandated for sterile hquid filtration. Nondestmctive integrity tests may be apphed. The tests are performed by wetting the filter with an appropriate solvent, commonly 60/40 isopropyl alcohol/water for hydrophobic membranes, and applying air or nitrogen gas at a preset pressure. 

In tougher materials the minimum thickness required by equation 15 can become excessive. In such cases the /-integral test is an attractive alternative. Because this test considers the stress distribution around the crack inside the plastic 2one, it can be used to obtain a vahd toughness measurement in a thinner specimen, because more extensive plastic yielding does not invaUdate the analysis. System Operation NFF system requirements depend on each application but should generally allow for installation, flushing, integrity testing, cleaning or sanitization, processing, recovery, and change-out. 

Early ultrafiltration membranes had thin surface retentive layers with an open structure underneath, as shown in Fig. 20-62. These membranes were prone to defects and showed poor retention and consistency. In part, retention by these membranes would rely on large retained components in the feed that polarize or form a cake layer that plugs defects. Composite membranes have a thin retentive layer cast on top of a microfiltration membrane in one piece.
