Integrated Demonstration Test

The development of the AHTR requires three overlapping steps leading to a full scale demonstration plant or first-of-a-kind plant concept development and evaluation, research and development, and integrated demonstration test. These are described in more detail below in thecontext of AHTR deplo5mient. 

Technical viability requires understanding of basic phenomenology (material behavior under irradiation, salt-graphite interactions, etc.) and development of key technologies so that an integrated demonstration test can be constructed with high confidence of success. This requires a variety of analysis studies, laboratory research, and supporting experimental test facilities. Some of the R D requirements that have been identified include... 

Demonstrate that, if circuit integrity is tested during the vertical flame test, a current continues operating for at least 5 min during the test. 

The verification of the system integration is performed after the designer s system integration and testing. In this phase, the objective should be to generate evidence which will demonstrate that the system integration has been properly controlled. 

Recent advances in the thermochemical SI cycle have been reported (Bae et al., 2015 Jung et al., 2015 Lee et al., 2014). An integrated operation test of more than 8 h was successfully conducted to demonstrate the promising potential of the pressurized operation for hydrogen production in 2014. 

System testing proceeds from small scale components tests to the first integrated system test (the DTM ) to larger scale and more integrated testing to demonstrate system features in electrically heats tests (EM and QM). Comparable cross-section testing, cold critical and hot critical testing was planned.
