Conceptual Approach

The overall objectives of the reactive molding of ceUulose whisker nanocomposites were to (i) disperse CWs in a FA monomer, and (ii) to achieve in-situ polymerization of the CW-FA dispersion using FA as a polymerizable solvent medium. 

To characterize the curing behavior and to investigate how the presence of CW influences the polymerization of FA, FTIR, and DSC, spectra were collected before and during the resiniflcation process. 

TGA was performed to compare the thermal stability of the PNC compared to a pure polymer.

The difference between the two philosophies will become clearer as we continue (so we hope ). Nevertheless, it is useful to point out that a similar mathematical model is suggested for both conceptual approaches. 

Pesticide Runoff Modeling. Obtaining the field data necessary to understand the potential mnoff of pesticides under a variety of conditions and sods would be an expensive and time-consuming process. As a result, a variety of simulation models that vary in their conceptual approach and degree of complexity have been developed. As shown in Figure 6.8, the most important part of the anaerobic sulfur cycle in terms of the sulfate respiration process can be integrated with the anaerobic carbon cycle. A fractionation of the readily biodegradable substrate (Ss) into SF and SA fits well to the anticipation that mainly SF is used by the sulfate-reducing biomass in sewer biofilms. By integrating the sulfide formation in this way, a simple conceptual approach is obtained instead of the traditional empirical descriptions as depicted in Table 6.1.

The identification of compounds with a desired property is a central pursuit in science. In the field of drug discovery combinatorial chemistry has played an increasingly important role for identification and optimization of drug leads which target therapeutically important biomolecules. For the successful implementation of combinatorial methods, new and innovative synthesis methods have been developed. Additionally, novel conceptual approaches to the design of compounds have been pursued to more efficiently generate libraries of small molecules.

Several different approaches can be used to model the interaction of solutes with reactive mineral surfaces. The conceptual approaches differ in the degree to which they account for observed or postulated solution and surface reactions.
