Instrument operating parameters

The approach to standardization used by Haaijman (53) and others (66,67), in which the fluorophor is incorporated within or bound to the surface of a plastic sphere, is more versatile than the use of inorganic ion>doped spheres, since the standard can be tailored exactly to the specifications required by the analyte species. However, this approach increases the uncertainty of the measurement because the photobleaching characteristics of both the standard and the sample must be considered. The ideal approach is to employ both types of standards. The glass microspheres can be used to calibrate instruments and set instrument operating parameters on a day-to-day basis, and the fluorophor-doped polymer materials can be used to determine the concentration-instrument response function. [Pg.115]

Electronics for controlling instrument-operating parameters, such as temperature and pressure, have contributed to more stable operation. This produces better repeatability of the system for multiple cycles leading to higher precision of component isolation. Advantage of improved measurement devices can be realized once the sample preparation function is resolved. Computer hardware and software provide expanded capability for signal processing and data manipulation. Stable and precise sample preparation and measurement systems allow accurate analytical information provided that adequate maintenance and calibration practices are applied,... [Pg.377]

With regard to analysis, there could be a different set of operating parameters for the analyzer instrument that would result in improved calibration data. For example, for an FTIR spectrometer, one could decrease the spectral resolution to obtain a better spectral S/N for the same total scan time. Such a strategy could be advantageous if the spectral features being used for calibration have relatively low resolution. There could also be specific sets of instrument-operating parameters where the instrument response is noisy or unstable over time, in which case they can be changed to improve precision and stability of the analyzer data. [Pg.274]

The elements Al, Mn, and Sr were determined by means of a Perkin-Elmer Optima 4300DV inductively coupled plasma emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) instrument (axial mode), equipped with an AS-90 Plus autosampler, a cross-flow nebulizer, and a Scott-type spray chamber in Ryton. The instrumental operating parameters are listed in Table 10.1. [Pg.337]

Another method known as "differential scanning calorimetry (/) records the differential electrical energy necessary to maintain sample and reference at an equal and linearly increasing temperature. Here also it is claimed that the area under a peak is directly proportional to the energy absorbed or liberated in a transition and is unaffected by sample geometry, sample heat capacity, or such instrument operating parameters as scanning rate (/). [Pg.8]

ESI-MS is often used for analyte quantification. However, a good quantification method must take into account all those parameters that during sample ionization may influence the MS signal of the analyte under investigation. The nature of the analyte, the solvent, the instrument operative parameters, the capillary tip distance from the mass spectrometer cone and the sample infusion flow rates are some examples.64 A study of the influence that some of those parameters might have on the NBDPZ signal at m/z 251 is therefore required. [Pg.228]

Your report should include all instrument operation parameters, as well as reagents and solutions used in performing the experiment. [Pg.792]

The Photovac Voyager, a fifth-generation portable GC, is shown in Figure 2. Features of the Photovac Voyager include a three-column system and dual PID-ECD detectors. The Voyager also includes a factory-programmed assay that provides preset instrument operating parameters and compoimd library to simplify operation. [Pg.64]

A block diagram of a basic fluorimeter is shown in Figure 2. Aside from the optical components shown, modern fluorimeters have dedicated computers, which may control instrumental operating parameters, the acquisition of spectral data and the postprocessing of the data. [Pg.1330]

There are a plethora of sampling methods, and this chapter has presented by no means an exhaustive listing. If a unique sampling procedure is used, make sure that it has been thoroughly documented and commented on. Note, in particular, any unique sample treatments and always record the instrument operating parameters. [Pg.79]

Chemical composition of the fibers was analyzed using a Bruker Equinox 55 IR spectrophotometer, equipped with a Mercury Cadmium Telluride detector and a nitrogen purged microscope attachment. The instrument operation parameters were as follows 4.0 cm resolution, 520 scans per... [Pg.132]

The instrument was run in the coUision/reaction mode using ammonia (NHj) gas to remove potential polyatomic interferences, because many of the transition elements are susceptible to spectral overlaps from ionic species generated by the plasma argon and the seawater matrix. The major instrument operating parameters are shown in Table 20.3. [Pg.264]

Instrument operating parameters to be used during the calibration and analysis must be investigated and selected. This is a simple operation for those who have low-cost instruments, as instruments of these series have very few variables for the operator to change. The research-type instruments allow the operator to vary a large number of parameters, and values for all of these must be selected at this time. As is true in the case of the cells, once these parameters have been selected they should never be changed unless the system is to be recalibrated Exceptions to this rule are gain and balance, which should always be checked, and reset if necessary, to maintain proper pen response and eliminate pen drift. [Pg.306]

If the computer is to control instrumental operating parameters, or if an analog data output is required, the reverse process of digital-to-analog conversion (DAC) is used. As for ADC, a DAC should have a resolution of 10 to 16 bits to ensure the generation of an acceptable analog signal. [Pg.332]

Despite the many advances in capillary gas chromatography instrumentation and the remarkable resolution achievable, it has proven difficult to standardize a test method for the analysis of a mixture as complex as petroleum naphtha. Because of the proliferation of numerous, similar columns and the endless choices of phase thickness, column internal diameter, length, etc., as well as instrument operating parameters, many laboratories use similar but not identical methods for the capillary GC analysis of petroleum naphthas. Even minute differences in column polarity or column oven temperature, for example, can change resolution or elution order of components and make their identiflcation an individual interpretive process rather than the desirable, objective application of standard retention data. To avoid this, stringent column specifications and temperature and flow conditions have been adopted in this test method to ensure consistent elution order and resolution and reproducible retention times. Strict adherence to the specified conditions is essential to the successful application of this test method. [Pg.786]
