Another specific mechanism for Interaction could be the proposed Institute of Chemical Education at the University of Wisconsin. The staff there, led by Professor Shakashlrl, are actively developing plans for such an Institute. The ACS Division of Chemical Education, the Society Committee on Education, and the Board of Directors have endorsed the plan seemingly Its time has come. Industry should also support the concept of this institute this is a logical focus for academic-Industrial interaction. This kind of institute, common in the research area, would be a very real plus in developing new approaches in chemical education. [Pg.62]

The new research frontiers in chemical engineering, some of which represent new applications for the discipline, have important implications for education. A continued emphasis is needed on basic principles that cut across many apphcations, but a new way of teaching those principles is also needed. Students must be exposed to both traditional and novel applications of chemical engineering. The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) has set in motion a project to incorporate into undergraduate chemical engineering courses examples and problems from emerging applications of the discipline. The committee applauds this work, as well as recent AIChE moves to allow more flexibility for students in accredited departments to take science electives. [Pg.19]

Chander Mohan was born in 1975 at Dhariwal, Punjab, India. He received his B.Pharm. and M.Tech.(Pharm.) in bulk drugs from Guru Nanak Dev University and the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Mohali. After that he worked as senior chemist at Dr. Reddy s Research Foundation, Hyderabad. He then joined Professor M. P. Mahajan s research group in 2002 for his doctoral studies. His research is focused on the synthesis and chemical transformation of C-5/C-6-substituted pyrimidinones. His research interests include synthesis of medicinally important molecules, transition metal-induced transformations in organic synthesis, reaction mechanism and total synthesis of natural products. [Pg.326]
