Inspection and repairs

Maintenance and Reliability Preventive maintenance requires that all engines be shut down at periodic intervals for inspection and repair. For properly maintained heavy-duty engines availability is over 97 percent, with maintenance costs of 2.50 to 5 per horse-power-year and lubricating-oil consumption of 1 to 2 gal/hp-year. While this represents a high degree of reliability, outages of heavy-duty engines are more frequent than those of electric motors or steam turbines. 

Check valves have a bad name among many plant operators. However, this is because many of these valves are never inspected or tested. No equipment, especially that containing moving parts, can be expected to work correctly forever without inspection and repair. When check valves are relied on for emergency isolation, they should be scheduled for regular inspection. 

Inspection and repair provided in the section titled Recommended Practice for Maintenance and Use of Drilling and Well Servicing Structures are extremely critical under low-temperature conditions. Masts should be maintained in excellent condition. 

Joints that are questionable as to their proper tightness should be unscrewed and the casing laid down for inspection and repair. Ported joints should never be reused without shopping or regaging, even though the joints may have little appearance of damage. 

Regardless of the method selected, great attention must nevertheless be given to ensuring that the final detail is sound and able to be inspected and repaired if necessary, when the structure is in service. 

Periodic inspection of surface and/or aboveground storage tanks tanks will be periodically taken out of service for inspection and repaired as needed double bottoms are also being installed, as appropriate and... 

Review the rest of the mechanical integrity program to ensure all critical equipment, piping, and pumps have acceptable integrity and an established inspection program with guidelines for repair. Include inspection and repair of fireproof insulation in the program. (By March 2002)... 

Field Sampling. An opportunity arose where actual field samples could be analyzed by both the infrared and gas chromatographic methods. At Robins AFB, Georgia, workers were inspecting and repairing the interior and exterior of C-141 aircraft fuel tanks. They were exposed only to JP-4 fuel fumes. Duplicate charcoal tubes or vapor monitors were attached to each worker, one on each lapel. Samples were drawn through the charcoal tubes at 0.20 to 0.26 1pm by portable pumps attached to the worker s belt. Because of slight variations, the total volumes collected for the duplicates were close, but not exactly the same in all cases. Samples were then labeled and shipped to our Laboratory for analysis by both methods.

Here we will present a simulation model for determining the inspection policy for SRVs in a typical petrochemical plant, based on experience. SMC typically requires post mold rework to provide a Class A surface. Consequently, additional manpower 1s allocated for Inspection and repair for SMC to fill and sand the parts In preparation for painting. Some manpower 1s allocated for minor repair of PU-RRIM parts. The Inspect/reject function 1n an Injection molding operation 1s normally handled by the clamp operator. 

Vertical pressure leaf filters. These filters have vertical, parallel, rectangular leaves mounted in an upright cylindrical pressure tank. The leaves usually are of such different widths as to allow them to conform to the curvature of the tank and to fill it without waste space. The leaves often rest on a filtrate manifold, the connection being sealed by an O ring, so that they can be lifted individually from the top of the filter for inspection and repair. A scavenger leaf frequently is installed in the bottom of the shell to allow virtually complete filtration of the slurry heel at the end of a cycle.
