Flow promoter

Convection heat transfer is dependent largely on the relative velocity between the warm gas and the drying surface. Interest in pulse combustion heat sources anticipates that high frequency reversals of gas flow direction relative to wet material in dispersed-particle dryers can maintain higher gas velocities around the particles for longer periods than possible ia simple cocurrent dryers. This technique is thus expected to enhance heat- and mass-transfer performance. This is apart from the concept that mechanical stresses iaduced ia material by rapid directional reversals of gas flow promote particle deagglomeration, dispersion, and Hquid stream breakup iato fine droplets. Commercial appHcations are needed to confirm the economic value of pulse combustion for drying. [Pg.242]

It has been seen that internal lubricants are essentially low molecular weight flow promoters which, unlike plasticisers, have little effect on the... [Pg.133]

This rubber has a very high melt viscosity and this was reduced by using a polar flow promoter such as zinc stearate at levels of 9.5 and 19%. This not only reduced the viscosity at low shear rates but also increased the level of pseudoplasticity so that at the high shear rates used in injection moulding flow was even more enhanced. [Pg.304]

In some moulding compositions other special purpose ingredients may be incorporated. For example, naphthalene, furfural and dibutyl phthalate are occasionally used as plasticisers or more strictly as flow promoters. They are particularly useful where powders with a low moulding shrinkage are required. In such formulations a highly condensed resin is used so that there will be less reaction, and hence less shrinkage, during cure. The plasticiser is incorporated to... [Pg.647]

Another use in conjunction with other polymers is as a flow promoter for thermoplastics such as polystyrene. [Pg.827]

The MFAs on heating (during the vulcanization process) decompose into two constituents— the diamine part functions as an accelerator while the fatty acid part acts as a flow promoter-cum-lubricant. [Pg.1034]

Improving giycaemic control may not only reduce the rate of non-enzymatic glycosyiation and monosaccharide autooxidation, but lower polyol pathway activity. In addition, it should have a beneficial effect on other haemodynamic and hormonal factors involved in the development of diabetic vascular disease. However, in studies of diabetic retinopathy, rapid control of glucose levels by intensive insulin therapy has been shown to worsen vascular disease initially and it could be postulated that a sudden improvement in retinal blood flow promotes further free-radical damage as part of a reperfusion-ischaemic injury. [Pg.194]

The Food and Dmg Administration (1999) permits the use of di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate in the United States as a component of adhesives used in food packaging, as a plasticizer in resinous and polymeric coatings used in food packaging, as a component of defoaming agents used in the manufacture of paper and paperboard used in food packaging, as a flow promoter in food contact surfaces not to exceed 3 wt% based on monomers, as a component of cellophane where total phthalates do... [Pg.57]

The liquid on the tray deck was at its bubble, or boiling, point. A sudden decrease in the tower pressure caused the liquid to boil violently. The resulting surge in vapor flow promoted jet entrainment, or flooding. [Pg.25]

Usually, the flow-promoting layer is placed between the outer wall of the dosage form and the core chambers, which facilitates the sliding of the drug layer from the cavity during release. The film is applied as a... [Pg.217]

Suitable materials for a flow-promoting layer include hydroxypropyl, hydroxyethyl, or hydroxypropylmethyl celluloses povidone polyethylene glycols (PEGs) or their mixtures [18]. [Pg.219]

In this chapter, the mechanics of hopper flow and standpipe flow along with their operational characteristics are described. Problems such as segregation, inconsistent flow rate, arching, and piping that disrupt and obstruct the flow of bulk solids in hoppers are discussed. Remedies with respect to the use of flow-promoting devices such as vibrators and aerating jets to reinitiate the flow are presented. The importance of the flowability of the solids to be handled in relation to the hopper design is emphasized. [Pg.333]
