Preparation of a mimetic of the cyclic peptide jaspamide was reported in 1988. 87 Compound 41 (Scheme 17) was designed to mimic the type-II (1-turn of the peptide, which contained the proposed pharmacophoric phenol and 2-bromoindole functional groups. This analogue displayed interesting insecticidal activity against the tobacco budworm, Heliothis vireseins.

Emamectin benzoate is a semisynthetic avermectin that is derived from fermentation of avermectin B. It contains a mixture of 4" epimethylamino-4"-deoxy-avermectin B,a and Bjb benzoate salts. Emamectin benzoate is a stomach poison insecticide active against lepi-dopterous pests in vegetables, cotton, maize, peanuts, soybeans, and strawberries. Its oral LD50 in rats is 1516 mg/kg. 

Flubendiamide is the only member of this class. It is a new insecticide active against lepi-dopterous insects, including those resistant to other classes of insecticides. 

Compounds I, II, III, XIV, and XXII, were tested for insecticidal activity against houseflies (Musca domestical. The insecticide-resistant strain of housefly was fed a food bait containing 1 percent of the test compounds. After 3 days, compounds II, III, and XCV shewed no mortality and compounds I and XXCI gave only 80 and 60 percent mortality, respectively (25). As in the case of cockroaches, the faster acting analogues may provide a more acceptable level of control.

This MLA fraction was also tested for insecticidal activity against Spodoptera eridania and Musea domeStica, and was toxic to both. A previous study by Aiyar et al. had shown that MLA was the alkaloid responsible for causing the death of cattle feeding on Delphinium brownii in Western Canada (10) They also demonstrated that MLA had a neuromuscular blocking action in a rat phrenic nerve-diaphragm preparation, which was probably due to an effect on the nicotinic cholinergic receptor. The EC50 for this effect was 2.3 pM.
