Heliothis virescens activity against

In some resistant strains, both types of resistance mechanism have been shown to operate against the same insecticide. Thus, the PEG87 strain of the tobacco bud worm (Heliothis virescens) is resistant to pyrethroids on account of both a highly active form of cytochrome P450 and an insensitive form of the sodium channel (Table 4.3 and McCaffery 1998). [Pg.95]

Jaspamide (17), previously mentioned in Section 17.3, is a modified peptide isolated from a Jaspis sponge. Jaspamide shows insecticidal activity against Heliothis virescens with an LCS0 of 4 ppm, as compared to 1 ppm for azadirachtin. Jaspamide (17), showed more than 72% mortality at 100 ppm to both southern com rootworm and tobacco budworm. Iso-domoic acids A (40), B, and C are novel amino acids from the red alga Chondria armata. They... [Pg.247]

Recent publications 0,4) in regard to the latter two plants indicate that they were also toxic to two bacteria which occur in the gut of the tobacco budworm Heliothis virescens (Fab.) and the corn earworm Heliothis zea (Boddie). The compounds, rhamnetin 3-0-glucoside and isoquercitrin, were isolated (3) from H camporum based upon their activity against Pseudomonas maltophilia and Enterobacter cloacae Also, a procyanidin was isolated (4) from Mj floribundum on the basis of activity against P. maltophilia. [Pg.470]

These compounds were tested against a series of Lepidoptera imder standard laboratory procedures. Activity on diamondback moth (PluteUa xylostdla, Px), fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda, Sf), and tobacco budworm (Heliothis virescens, Hv) was evaluated. Insecticidal potency is reported as the LCjq in ppm. Comparison of the insecticidal activity for compounds D1-D3 identifies several key structural features of importance (Table 1). Our initial lead compoimd D1 was effective on the species S/and Px with LCjq values of 68.9 and 16.8, respectively, but with no activity on Hv. Incorporation of a 2-methyl group on the benzamide,... [Pg.112]

Bt used in spray-on formulations is, perhaps, the most successful biopesticide. Reasons for Bt s success include ease of handling and a very high specific activity against sensitive insects. For example, a Bt insecticidal protein called CrylAc has a LCjq on Heliothis virescens neonate larvae as low as 0.07 ppm [10]. However, most individual Bt insecticidal proteins have a narrow activity spectrum. As mentioned, CrylAc is very active against H. virescens, while another Bt toxin called CrylCa is not. CrylCa is active against Spodoptera exigua, but CrylAc is not. This is perhaps... [Pg.190]

A series of six quassinoids isolated from Simaba multiflora and Soulamea soulameoides were shown to be active as growth inhibitors and as antifeedants against Heliothis virescens (cotton budworm) and Spodoptera frugiperda (fall armyworm) (Klocke et al., 1985). [Pg.481]

Secondary Screening Methods. Compounds 2 and 3 underwent additional evaluation against the 2-spotted spider mite (SSM, P-resistant strain, Tetranvchus urticae) and the western potato leafhopper adult (WPL, Empoasca abrupta). In these tests, the 2-spotted spider mites were either allowed to infest a Sieva lima bean test plant which was then dipped in the test solution, or they were directly sprayed with a test solution. Activity against the western potato leafhopper was determined using the cut-stem systemic test in which Sieva lima bean plants were allowed to take up an emulsion formulation of the test compound. Compounds 1 and 3 were further evaluated against the tobacco budworm (TBW, Heliothis virescens) and the southern corn rootworm (SCR, Diabrotica unde-cimpunctata howardi). Solutions of the test compounds were applied topically. [Pg.475]
