Injection micro-moulding

An important aspect of this enhancement strategy is its compatibility with current fabrication techniques, in particular polymer processing technology. The technique of micro-injection moulding was employed to produce polystyrene chips with an integrated array of cone structures intended for use in an aqueous environment. [Pg.207]

Injection is used for moulding small to large parts, from micro-switches up to fenders and pallets, etc. [Pg.42]

The iQ automotive battery incorporates a micro-chip which monitors and controls the electrochemical process of the lead-acid battery, as well as its physical environmental and operating conditions. The thermal insulation of the battery also plays an important role. Neopolen P, a thermoplastic particle foam from BASF which can be processed completely without blowing agents, was chosen for this application. The foamed battery container calls for a solid frame that can be mounted onto the car body, and this frame is configured as a solid PP injection-moulded article, and fused to the container. [Pg.63]

Developments in micro-processing have made it much easier to monitor and to control conditions in the course of manufacture, and to prepare and maintain written records. Injection moulding may be supervised with the help of melt thermocouples fitted in the nozzle, pressure transducers in the hydraulic line and in the mould, and a transducer to monitor linear movement of the screw. Information from these sensors may be displayed and depicted in relation to the control limits (upper and lower) and the operator thus made aware immediately of variations that could be significant. Conditions can be corrected more rapidly and if need be any mouldings that might not be satisfactory diverted for examination. Should the number of suspect products exceed a limit set in advance, a line can be shut down automatically. [Pg.155]

The following techniques are useful for analysis and charaterization for the sizing on the fibres SEM, IR and 6PC of extracts, IGC and DMA (T ) for the fibre-matrix bond micro bond, micro failure with SEM [2], confocal laser scanning microscopy [3] DMA, flexural strength, ILSS and impact of the uni-directional composites (fixed fibre length, orientation and volume fraction distributions). After this detailed analysis, the fibres are tested in their application, which is an injection moulded compound for thermoplasts, where the microstructure (fibre length, fibre orientation and fibre-fibre distance distributions) as well as the fibre- matrix adhesion determine the mechanical properties. [Pg.412]

Pressure and speed settings should be adjusted so that the mould is filled as quickly as possible, without flash over of rubber from the runners. Aim for compaction of the rubber in the cavity with a minimum pressure of 15 MPa. This will reduce the possibility of micro-porosity in the finished component. If the rubber flow has been modelled previously, then the guide time for injection speed should be achieved (for example, see Figure 5.2). [Pg.50]

The border of the Load task will now change to black indicating the task has been analysed for its micro requirements. Click the floppy symbol in the menu bar to save the analysis. Do this after every task analysis. Double click on the Mould task. Fill in the details as below. Click on the Equipment button and select Injection Moulder. Click on the Tool button and select Injection Mould. Leave Check Capacity. Fill in the remaining details. Click on Cost Analysis button. [Pg.56]

Recently several methods were developed for fast prototyping and mass production of micro- and nanostructures in polymers. Injection moulding is one of the techniques, which is commonly used with great success. Improvement in patterning, structuring [32] or bonding [33] of those materials is essential for the creation of low cost and portable biosensors. However, in this work, we do not focus on these fabrication methods, rather we describe some specific polymers which are commonly used in biosensor designs. [Pg.521]
