Initiatives lost time

In their study of branched PSA, Maniar et al. (1990) found that the molecular architecture of branched polymers affects the release kinetics in a variety of ways. They found that the branched polymers degraded faster than linear PSA of comparable molecular weight (Maniar et al., 1990). They also noted that drug (morphine) release profiles were more characteristic of bulk erosion than surface erosion An initial lag time during which very little drug was released was associated with the time required for water to swell the polymer. This was followed by a period of relatively fast release, which tapered off as the device disintegrated. The polymer matrix lost its mechanical integrity before the release experiment was complete (Maniar et al., 1990). Despite the increase... [Pg.204]

In Search of Lost Time has been translated into more than 35 languages and has never been out of print since its initial publication. The work s amazing popularity is due to Proust s psychological insights into how humans view the deepest essence of reality. [Pg.151]

Readers frequently ask me about the methods I have used to become a prolific book author. Readers also wonder how they can get published. So, in this chapter, I would like to talk about personal experiences I ve had as a writer and with the business of publishing. In the previous chapter, I mentioned that Marcel Proust was forced to pay for the publication of his masterpiece. In Search of Lost Time. Luckily, I ve not had to do that with any of my books. In contrast, no publisher would initially touch In Search of Lost Time, even though today it is hailed as one of the best novels ever written. In 1919, one of its earlier volumes. Within a Budding Grove, won France s most prestigious literary award, the Goncourt Prize. [Pg.165]

The Top Event of a safety tree is usually of the form Person Seriously Injured or Killed, or Worker Suffers Lost Time Injury. The Initiating Event, whose dimension is inverse time, starts the accident sequence that could lead to the occurrence of the Top Event. Typical initiating events are ... [Pg.634]

Warning In all probability your organization s behavior-based safety process will soon collapse. Statistics show that 70 percent of such initiatives fail, resulting in billions of dollars in lost time and revenues. [Pg.416]

For X = 0.25 the relaxation rate for T < 7n = 6.2 K has further increased. Most of the signal is lost in the initial dead time (of the BOOM pulsed muon facility). No further... [Pg.338]

This value analysis of the material includes initial alloy price, installed cost, and the expected life of the finished product. Improved machinability, headability, weldability, or simplified heat treatment may justify higher material cost. A more costly product that provides longer service may be less expensive than lost time for outages to replace a less expensive material. [Pg.769]

HFCLM-based Isomer Separation Processes. Armstrong and Jin (33) studied liquid membrane permeation through an aqueous SLM in a cellulose filter placed in a batch cell. The feed consisted of a 50-50 mixture of organic isomeric solute systems (structural, stereoisomers, etc.) in an organic solvent with the same solvent present in the permeate side. They incorporated p-cyclodextrin (they also tested a-and y-) in the aqueous solution to develop selectivity for one isomer over the other. Considerable selectivity was achieved initially. With time the selectivity was lost due to the inherent nature of the batch system. [Pg.234]

The lost time has been almost equally divided among the above plant problems all of which have now been overcome. They are thought to be of a non-recurrent type and again represent typical Initial or commissioning problems which occur during the first few weeks of plant operation. [Pg.160]

The power thermal area of the initial plant, with approximately 200 employees, was chosen as the pilot group because it held the most room for improvement. In 1992 alone, this area had five recordable injuries and three lost-time incidents. [Pg.216]

The advantage of single-pass over cross-flow filtration is that it is an easier system to operate and can be cost effective, particularly if the product to be filtered is expensive, because very tittle of the initial fluid is lost during filtration. However, because the flow pattern of the fluid is directly through the filter, filter life maybe too short for the fluid being filtered. The minimum flow rate needed downstream of the filter must also be considered, especially when there are time constraints to the process. In some situations it may be more advantageous to use a cross-flow system where higher flow rates may be easier to obtain. [Pg.143]

In-plant controls are perhaps the best approach to eliminate waste generation and pollution problems, and many times good payback exists on recovery of products lost because of poor process controls. If the production department is responsible for the generation and in-plant control of wastes, this will help ensure that initial standards for water use and process loss are reasonable and that they are maintained (33). [Pg.92]
