Infants infant foods

Used in baked goods (breads, cakes, cookies, crackers, doughnuts), pasta products, emulsified and coarsely ground meat products, meat analogues, breakfast cereals, dietary foods, infant foods, confections, milk replacers, and pet foods. [Pg.303]

A slurry of the starch is cooked in the presence of a heat-stable bacterial endo-a-amylase. The enzyme hydrolyzes the a-l,4-glycosidic bonds in pregelatinized starch, the viscosity of the gel rapidly decreases, and maltodextrins are produced. The process may be terrninated at this point. The solution is purified and dried, and the maltodextrins are utilized as blandtasting functional ingredients in dry soup mixes, infant foods, sauces and gravy mixes, etc. [Pg.296]

Nearly 60% of the whey and whey products produced in the United States in 1980 were used in human food products, over 80% as dry whey. More than 65% of the whey used for animal feed was a dried whey product. Principal users of whey products for human foods are dairies and bakeries. Lactose, which is derived primarily from whey, is used mainly in infant foods and pharmaceuticals (Whey Products Institute 1980). [Pg.75]

Most of the child and infant food products have either no chemicals or very low chemical levels, yet 50 percent of all the child/infant products contain multiple chemical contaminates. Those food products with low to moderate chemical levels in this category tend to have moderate to very high levels in the other food categories (i.e., the Protein, Fruit, and Vegetable categories). In other words, it would seem that adult foods with high numbers of chemical contaminants will occur in children s food at relatively higher levels. [Pg.9]

If parents are not satisfied with the level of contaminants in some of the foods tested by the FDA, they have two basic choices. They can either select organic child and infant products or prepare child and infant food from organic products. [Pg.9]

In order to evaluate an individual s exposure to chemical mixtures, it was necessary to determine how frequently pesticide and industrial chemicals were found in each food product. The results of this determination are discussed for the basic food categories (i.e., dairy, protein, vegetable, fruit, and grain) as well as for the mixed food and child/infant food categories. [Pg.23]

Depctrins, products of the partial hydrolysis of starch, are polysacchandes of lower molecular weight than starch. They are used in infant food because they are easier to digest than starches. Dextrins are sticky when wet and are used as mucilage on postage stamps and envelopes. [Pg.75]
