Carburization by Thermal Diffusion. Carburization of chemically processed metal or metal-compound powders is carried out through sohd-state, thermal diffusion processes, either in protective gas or vacuum. Carbide soHd solutions are prepared by the same methods. Most carbides are made by these processes, using loose or compacted mixtures of carbon and metal or metal-oxide powders. HaUdes of Group 5 (VB) metals recovered from ores by chlorination are similarly carburized. [Pg.448]

Polyolefin copolymers Although there is a wide variety of these available, the only one currently commercially available as a compounded powder is saponified EVA. This is reported to have good weatherability and will not suffer from ESC. One major advantage this coating has is that it can be applied by the fluidised bed process at low temperatures and this offers the possibility of coating temperature-sensitive metals such as galvanised steel. [Pg.752]

Weigh all the ingredients separately. Iodine must be finely subdivided. Place the iodine in a glass mortar, add alcohol drop wise, and triturate until the iodine is reduced to a fine powder. Then add boric acid and lactose by geometric mixing until the alcohol evaporates. Dry the powder for about twenty minutes in the air and then pass through a 40 mesh sieve to break all the lumps. Transfer the powder into a wide-mouthed, four-ounce bottle. Label appropriately as Compounded Powder with the instructions of Apply to affected area twice daily as directed. ... [Pg.136]

Powders are thorough mixtures of dry, finely divided drugs and exeipients that are intended for internal or external use. Granules are dosage forms that eonsist of parti-eles ranging in size from about 4 to 10 mesh (2000-4750 pm). Both powders and granules are easy to use and to compound. An example formula of a eurrently compounded powder ineludes the following ... [Pg.27]

Bayberry bark is one of the most widely used agents in the herbal practice. It figures in many of the compound powders and is the base of the celebrated composition powder, a prescription of which will be found in the "Herbal Formulae" section of this volume. In cases of coldness of the extremities, chills and influenza, an infusion of 1 ounce of the powdered bark to 1 pint of water is taken warm. This assists circulation and promotes perspiration, especially when combined with Cayenne as in... [Pg.19]

A known mass of degassed (free of water and volatile compounds) powder with a total surface of more than 2 m is used for analysis. By adding defined doses of the analysis gas and measuring the equilibrium pressure, gas adsorption isotherms can be obtained (Equation 10.21). From this measurement the... [Pg.43]

Such powders can be administered singly (simple powders) or as a mixture of different medicinal powders (compound powders). " One of the most ancient compound powders was Hiera Picra (sacred bitters), a mixture of Aloe and Canella introduced in about 500 B.C. as a laxative. (A large number of bitter powders containing Aloe as the principal ingredient bore the name of Hiera.) This powder was listed in various Pharmacopoeias, and it was recognized up to the 4th edition of the National Formulary (official until 1926). [Pg.2971]

There are few studies of the health effects from rhodium or its common compounds. Powdered rhodium metal is considered to be an irritant to the skin, eyes, and respiratory system. There has been no research on the long-term effects of exposure to rhodium or its compounds. Elements without information about toxicity are usually treated as if they are poisonous. [Pg.500]

The eutectic bonding method can be applied to a combination of shaped metal parts and intermetallic compound powder, and results in coating of the shaped metal part by intermetallic compound. We intend to call this technique eutectic coating method . [Pg.199]

His mathematical analysis deals with the problem of determining how much of one powder A, must be added to another powder B, to obtain continuity of powder A in a random mixture of the two. When more than the minimum is added, more continuity will result. Continuity is expressed as the probability that pairs of particles of powder A have radii, the sum of which just equals the distance between their centers. Forscher s mathematical analysis leads him to conclude that for an aggregate of equal-size spheres A is probably discontinuous if the ratio of A to B is below Both A and B are continuous when A/B exceeds this ratio and eventually B becomes discontinuous if B/A falls below In the discussion given, powder A is a good conductor of electricity, and powder B, a poor conductor. The degree of continuity of powder A was assumed proportional to the over-all conductivity of the compound powder mixture. [Pg.271]

In a preliminary experiment, an attempt was made to prepare a compound powder by using a granulated powder mixture of Ce-TZP and 0-AI2O3, the raw material used for ceramic blocks in the CAD/CAM system. Contrary to our expectations, both types of powder were not sufficiently compounded, even through a range of calcination temperatures from 1300 to 1600 °C. [Pg.410]
