The synthesis of vinylsulfonyl dyes is a good example for a method to obtain pH indicator layers with operational stability of weeks and shelf life of years. Commercial transparencies with a cellulose coating are used as the polymer matrix and the reactive vinylsulfonyl dye is bound to the cellulose... [Pg.306]

Both cells are equipped with gas-permeable membranes that allow for nearly specific gas transfer from the sample into a thin indicator layer (buffer) of a cell that is in contact with the electrochemical sensing electrode. For the C02-GSS, the indicator layer is a flat pH glass membrane, while for the 02-CSS it is a cathode made of platinum or gold. [Pg.10]

Mica particles coated with a metal oxide film have three layers with different refractive indices (layer 1 and 3 are identical, layer 2 is mica) and four interfaces (see chapter 16.2). Interference of light is generated by reflections of all six possible combinations of the four interfaces. Some of them lead to equal effects. The thickness of the mica platelets varies according to a statistical distribution. As a con-... [Pg.232]

Colorimetric and fluorimetric NH3 sensors contain mixtures of pH indicators having suitable dissociation constants at the tip of the fiber bundle. The measuring solution is separated from this indicator layer by an NH3 gas-permeable membrane covered by an immobilized de-aminating enzyme, e.g. urease (Wolfbeis, 1987 Arnold, 1987). The fluorimetric indication of NADH has been used in optical biosensors for lactate, pyruvate, and ethanol, where the respective dehydrogenase is immobilized at the tip of an optical NADH sensor (Arnold, 1987 Wangsa and Arnold, 1988). [Pg.15]

M the entire mica layer (T-O-T). There are two types Ml and M2 depending on the location (Ml vs. M2/M3) of the origin of the O sheet. Standard character M indicates layer, italics M indicates cation sites. [Pg.157]

T = 473 K) for 10 s. The 11 composite V/Y stripes take up H via the Pd layer, which is located at the upper part of the photo. Lateral H migration occurs along the stripes away from the Pd-covered part. Within the Y-indicator layer, the presence of H leads to the formation of the YH2 phase, which appears blue in reflection. Note the influence of the V thickness on the mobility of the YH2 front in the indicator. The nonconstant thickness of the second, seventh and the ninth vanadium stripes leads to a deformation of the diffusion front. (From Remhof et al. (2002), Ref [208].)... [Pg.315]

The method can also be used to measure the catalytic activity of hydrogen uptake of various compounds. The metallic indicator layer has a high affinity for hydrogen but is not able to absorb it directly due to its nonactive oxide skin. This thin oxide layer does transport hydrogen to the optically active indicator layer, once the molecular hydrogen is dissociated by a catalyst (e.g. Pd-clusters [84]). On this... [Pg.317]

Energy levels and layer structures of the red p-i-n OLEDs with various materials in the HBL and electrically doped transport layers. Indicator layer (ITL) was used as optional interlayer, which served only as sensor for exciton distribution. (From Meerheim, R. et al., /. Appl. Phys., 104,0145510,2008. With permission.)... [Pg.471]

Evaluation indicator layer The subdivision is made based on restriction layer. For topographic slope, it is subdivided into four indicator layers <15°, 15° 30°, 30° 45° and >45°, the subdivided weights of these indicator layers are calculated on the basis of restriction layer weight calculation. [Pg.321]

The voltammetric curves for Zn in BMIBF4 presented in Fig. 5 (dry and chloride- free BMIBF4) and 6 (BMIBF4 containing 0.87 mass % of Q and 1.3 mass % of water) also indicate layers of corrosion products, which depress the corrosirMi rate, but unlike for steel (Fig. 3) the first plateau is absent, and the protective layer is not a passive laver. [Pg.168]

Thus, the proposed in the present work stmetnral (fractal) treatment explains quantitatively the coke lesidne formation process at eomposites HDPE/Al(OH)3 combustion. The antipyrene (in the considered case - Al(OH)3) decomposition is realized in the surface (interfacial) layers of fractal aggregates, formed by Al(OH)j particles in their aggregation process. This process in the given case is due to the indicated layers friable structure that allows an easy access to them the air, necessary for decomposition. [Pg.227]
