For in vivo incorporation of BrdU in experimental animals, inject 10-100 mg/kg of BrdU in 0.9% saline by the ip route. A concentration of 10 mg/mL is routinely used. The animal is sacrificed after 1 h for labeling index studies or at 1-2 hourly time intervals for cell cycle progression studies In vivo incorporation of BrdU into humans at Mount Vernon Hospital involves iv injection of 200 mg of BrdU in 20 mL of normal saline as a single bolus over 3-5 min... 

Other times of unusually extensive tropical paleosols were the latest Paleocene (55 Ma Taylor et ai, 1992), latest Eocene (35 Ma Bestland et ai, 1996 Retallack et al, 2000), and Middle Miocene (16 Ma Schwarz, 1997). These events are notable as short-lived (<0.5 Myr) spikeUke warmings in both stable isotopic records from the ocean (Veizer et al., 2000 Zachos et al, 2001) and stomatal index studies (Retallack, 2001b). The latest Paleocene warm spike is associated with such profound carbon isotopic lightening that it can only reasonably be attributed to the methane from isotopically light methane clathrates from the ocean floor or permafrost (Koch, 1998). Short-term physical forcings are thus also recorded in the paleosol record of paleoclimate. 

The Beginnings of a Sustainability Model. Many of the indicators used for the Value Creation Index studies mentioned above were limited to the availability of public information. But one could imagine some of the additional kinds of metrics - beyond that which is publicly available - that would constitute a firm-level model of sustainability. By mining what they already know from a host... 

Despite the above observation, we discovered only a slight gradation in composition from top to bottom in the sample via refractive index studies. The eutectic microstructures we present below are observed throughout their respective specimens with only minor variations in scale and primary-phase abundance. 

Refractive index studies allow measurements of the birefringence, but also of the polarisability. The mean polarisability (a) can be determined using an isotropic liquid solution, whereas the polarisability anisotropy (Aa) is measured in the mesophase. Polarisability studies have been made on palladium, platinum, iridium and silver metallomesogens, and show a higher polarisability for the metal complexes than for their parent ligands. ...

In this section, we will discuss the use of radionuclide tracers in a metabolic index study.
