INDEX studies, early

ALB was one of the first identified biochemical markers of malnutrition and has long been used in population studies. ALB is a relatively insensitive index of early protein malnutrition because there is a large amount normally found in the body (4 to 5 g/kg of body weight), it is highly distributed in the extravascular compartment (60%), and it has a long half-life (18 to 20 days). However, chronic protein deficiency in the setting of adequate nonprotein calorie intake leads to marked hypoalbuminemia because of a net ALB loss from the intravascular and extravascular compartments (kwashiorkor). Serum ALB concentrations also are affected by moderate-to-severe calorie deficiency hepatic, renal, and GI disease and infection, tramna, stress, and burns. In many cases, interpretation of serum ALB concentrations relative to nutrition status is difficult however, a positive correlation between decreased serum ALB concentrations and poor clinical outcome has been demonstrated in a variety of settings. Additionally, serum ALB concentrations of 2.5 g/dL or less can be expected to exacerbate ascites and peripheral, pulmonary, and GI mucosal edema due to decreased colloid oncotic pressure. 

The Science Citation Index lists 4605 citations of the original MNDO paper in the period 1977-1996, with an average of 341 per year over the last ten years, which indicates the widespread use of MNDO in computational chemistry. It is thus obviously impractical to attempt a comprehensive survey of published MNDO studies. Early MNDO applications up to 1982 have been listed " based on the entries in Chemical Abstracts, and selected MNDO studies on chemical reactions up to 1987 have been summarized in a later review. ... 

In an early study, Greenleaf et al. [4] reported reconstructions of ultrasonic velocity from time-of-flight profiles. Since then there has been periodic activity in using ultrasound to determine the transmission properties attenuation or refractive index. 

Theoretical and structural studies have been briefly reviewed as late as 1979 (79AHC(25)147) (discussed were the aromaticity, basicity, thermodynamic properties, molecular dimensions and tautomeric properties ) and also in the early 1960s (63ahC(2)365, 62hC(17)1, p. 117). Significant new data have not been added but refinements in the data have been recorded. Tables on electron density, density, refractive indexes, molar refractivity, surface data and dissociation constants of isoxazole and its derivatives have been compiled (62HC(17)l,p. 177). Short reviews on all aspects of the physical properties as applied to isoxazoles have appeared in the series Physical Methods in Heterocyclic Chemistry (1963-1976, vols. 1-6).

The electrochemically induced creation of the Pt(lll)-(12xl2)-Na adlayer, manifest by STM at low Na coverages, is strongly corroborated by the corresponding catalyst potential Uwr and work function O response to galvanostatic transients in electrochemical promotion experiments utilizing polycrystalline Pt films exposed to air and deposited on (T -AbCb. 3637 Early exploratory STM studies had shown that the surface of these films is largely composed of low Miller index Pt(lll) planes.5... 

In humans, early symptoms of intoxication may include headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, malaise, and myoclonic jerks of the limbs clonic and tonic convulsions and sometimes coma follow and may occur without the premonitory symptoms. A suicidal person who ingested 25.6mg/kg developed convulsions within 20 minutes that persisted recurrently until large amounts of barbiturates had been administered. Hematuria and azotemia occurred the day after ingestion and continued for 18 days. Liver function studies were within normal limits except for an elevated icterus index an electroencephalogram revealed generalized cerebral dysrhythmia, which returned to normal after 5 months. ... 

The studies under ultrahigh vacuum have shown that adsorption and surface charging influence the stability of the reconstructed surfaces. A similar influence has been observed for metal surfaces in contact with electrolyte solutions [336]. In this case, the separation of these two influences is not simple, since the surface charging and adsorption processes are interdependent. Generally, it has been concluded [4] that Au surface reconstruction occurs for negative electrode charges and disappears for positive surface charges. It is noteworthy that as early as in 1984, Kolb and coworkers [339, 340], who carried out systematic study on all three low-index faces Au electrodes, showed that the reconstructed surfaces can be stable in electrolyte solutions. 

A retrospective study of 52 delusionally depressed patients suggested that there may be various subgroups bipolar, early onset unipolar and possibly unipolar, late onset (12). As with previous reports, there was a remarkably high rate of psychotic relapse in those patients who manifested psychotic symptoms at the index admission (i.e., depression or mania with psychotic features). Moreover, psychotic features were more common in bipolar than in unipolar depression.
