I7(x-Methyl-17 -hydroxy-estra-4,9,l l-trien-3-one (Methyltrienolone, N-99). In the course of a steroid total synthesis [293] this compound (Methyltrienolone, N-99) was prepared it was reported [55] to possess 6000% of the androgenic (ventral prostate index), 7500% of the androgenic (seminal vesicles index), and 12,000% of the anabolic (levator ani index) activity of methyltestosterone. Later the anabolic activity was reported [74] to be 30,000% of that of methyltestosterone. As measured by multiple parameters methyltrienolone turned out to be the most hepatotoxic steroid, causing biochemical symptoms of intrahepatic cholestasis [75]. It was also reported [74] to reduce the excretion of 17-ketosteroids and 17-hydroxycorticosteroids and to cause enhancement of the blood coagulation factors V, VII, and X. It also increases the prothrombin content of the plasma [74]. [Pg.88]

In an early study, Greenleaf et al. [4] reported reconstructions of ultrasonic velocity from time-of-flight profiles. Since then there has been periodic activity in using ultrasound to determine the transmission properties attenuation or refractive index. [Pg.203]

Antineoplastic Drugs. Cyclophosphamide (193) produces antineoplastic effects (see Chemotherapeutics, anticancer) via biochemical conversion to a highly reactive phosphoramide mustard (194) it is chiral owing to the tetrahedral phosphoms atom. The therapeutic index of the (3)-(-)-cyclophosphamide [50-18-0] (193) is twice that of the (+)-enantiomer due to increased antitumor activity the enantiomers are equally toxic (139). The effectiveness of the DNA intercalator dmgs adriamycin [57-22-7] (195) and daunomycin [20830-81-3] (196) is affected by changes in stereochemistry within the aglycon portions of these compounds. Inversion of the carbohydrate C-1 stereocenter provides compounds without activity. The carbohydrate C-4 epimer of adriamycin, epimbicin [56420-45-2] is as potent as its parent molecule, but is significandy less toxic (139). [Pg.261]

The first appearance of the term "alkyd resin" in the subject index of Chemicaly bstracts 2iS. in 1929, under Resins. It was not until 1936 that Alkyd Resins was Hsted in its alphabetical place, but stiU appeared as "See Resinous Products." The proliferation of Hterature on alkyd resins peaked from the 1940s through the 1960s. Research activities on alkyds in the United States, as indicated by the number of pubHcations, has apparentiy tapered off since the 1970s. Readers interested in alkyd history can find more detailed historical reviews elsewhere (1 4). [Pg.31]
