Subject index activation

The first appearance of the term "alkyd resin" in the subject index of Chemicaly bstracts 2iS. in 1929, under Resins. It was not until 1936 that Alkyd Resins was Hsted in its alphabetical place, but stiU appeared as "See Resinous Products." The proliferation of Hterature on alkyd resins peaked from the 1940s through the 1960s. Research activities on alkyds in the United States, as indicated by the number of pubHcations, has apparentiy tapered off since the 1970s. Readers interested in alkyd history can find more detailed historical reviews elsewhere (1 4). [Pg.31]

From 1871 until the formation of British Abstracts in 1926 it published abstracts from other journals on pure and theoretical chemistry, indicated in the collective indexes by an A after the author s name. For many years two volumes of abstracts were published annually. Author and subject indexes are available. About half of its contents today refer to organic chemistry, the rest being divided between physical and inorganic. News and activities of the Society which were for many years included in the Journal have been published separately since 1957 as the Proceedings of the Chemical Society. [Pg.57]

Loeomotor aetivity has historically been used as an index of psychostimulant effects. Simple assessment of amount of loeomotor activity can provide the basis for anatomical as well as pharmaeologieal analysis of the neural substrates that mediate the behavioral expression of stimulant action. More sophisticated behavioral measurement systems ean reeord multiple measures of activity and describe spatial and temporal patterning of loeomo-tion. In such systems, qualitative aspects of behavioral activation can be evaluated by examining the entire activity profile. A comparison of the effects of novel drugs with those produced by well-characterized substanees may lead to a better understanding of their mechanisms of action and subjective properties. [Pg.102]
