A further improvement utilizes the compatibility of hindered lithium dialkylamides with TMSC1 at —78 °C. Deprotonation of ketones and esters with lithium dialkylamides in the presence of TMSC1 leads to enhanced selectivity (3) for the kinetically generated enolate. Lithium t-octyl-t-butyl-amide (4) appears to be superior to LDA for the regioselective generation of enolates and in the stereoselective formation of (E) enolates. [Pg.60]

A counter current movement of the mobile phase and the sorbent has some unique advantages when designing separation processes for maximum economy. The efficiency requirement for the sorbent is lower compared to other chromatographic modes, since no individual column has to achieve full resolution. Instead only the pure fractions of the zones obtained are withdrawn from the system. The time-space yield in terms of productivity is enhanced considerably by the improved utilization of the sorbent capacity. The product dilution is lower, pure fractions are withdrawn with high yield and it is not necessary to consider fractions of less then the desired purity. Early on it was re-... [Pg.213]

Clean coal production will undoubtedly help reduce combustion waste, especially if reject material is returned to the coal extraction site. Some ash, especially fly ash, finds useful application, but scope exists for innovative research to improve utilization of coal combustion products. For example, tailoring ash properties to specific applications offers scope for increased utilization, provided tailoring can be done economically. [Pg.221]

Much has been done and you soon may infer from the breadth of the material that we will cover that most everything worth doing already has been done. However, many unsolved scientific problems remain and others have not even been thought of but, in addition, there are many technical and social problems to which answers are badly needed. Some of these include problems of pollution of the environment, energy sources, overpopulation and food production, insect control, medicine, drug action, and improved utilization of natural resources. [Pg.22]

The impetus for displacing fossil fuels with biomass in heat and power combustion systems is typically to reduce emissions of C02, and of NOx, SOx, and other air toxics, or to improve utilization of biomass residues and wastes. The threat of increased global warming has subjected the use of fossil fuels to increasing scrutiny in terms of greenhouse gas and pollutant emissions. Renewable and... [Pg.1520]

Nutritional Uses of Lecithin in Animal Feeds The functional aspects of lecithin use as an emulsifier are referenced above. Emulsification of dietary lipid is also nutritionally important for digestion. Immature animals of all species (e.g., calves, dogs, fish, pigs, and poultry) have limited production of digestive emulsifiers (i.e., bile) and enzymes. Providing lecithin as a dietary emulsifier allows improved utilization of feed energy. [Pg.1781]

Poultry. More than 100 papers have been published on the value of supplementing diets of farm animals with L-ascorbic acid. The overall results are at times controversial. Enhancement of poultry growth has been reported by several workers using purified (144,145) and practical (146,147,148) rations and not by others (149), the general interpretation being that the ascorbic acid does not function directly but indirectly, involving a protective action or improved utilization of other nutrients. Added dietary ascorbic acid has been reported to stimulate synthesis or liberation of folic acid by intestinal bacteria, to aid in its conversion to folacin (146,150,151,152), to reinforce antibiotics in high... [Pg.409]

Ihe equipment used in this study (Figure 1) consisted of a capacitively-coupled plasma reactor similar to the apparatus described by Poulsen 3) for the plasma etching of integrated circuits. This arrangement resulted in uniform depositions over a range of flow rates and improved utilization of monomer. [Pg.127]

Hence FFF can be considered to be a relatively young separation method, the improvement, utilization and expansion of which is to be expected. Several recent works have suggested both theoretically and practically further possibilities that can be provided by FFF. [Pg.516]
