Immunosupressant

Activation of immunophilin receptors in the CNS is thought to be involved in certain aspects of AIDS dementia and the CNS side effects seen with the immunosupressants, FK 506 and cyclophilin. FK 506 and related compounds also have antiischemic effects. [Pg.540]

Close monitoring of HCT recipients for infections is necessary because recovery of immune function is slow, sometimes requiring over 2 years, even in the absence of immunosupressants.104 Fevers should be assessed and treated rapidly to minimize the likelihood of a fatal infection. HCT recipients—both autologous and allogeneic—lose protective antibodies to vaccine-preventable diseases the CDC and the European Group for Bone Marrow Transplantation have issued recommendations for reimmunization for HCT recipients.107... [Pg.1463]

Deficiency of vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) causes gradual disappearance of the lymphatic system, depressed number of B lymphocytes in peripheral blood, and impaired activity of antibodies and IL-2 (Szponar and Respondek 1998) (Table 2.2.4). Vitamin D3 can produce an immunosupressive effect. The recent literature data suggest that one of metabolites of this vitamin, 1,2,5-dihydroxy D3, by affecting a specific receptor present on monocytes and lymphocytes, can inhibit their proliferation. This effect occurs via retardation of the production of mRNA for GM CSF, IL-2, and IFN-7. At the same time, it has been demonstrated that deficiency of vitamin D3 in food caused impaired cellular-type tolerance (Szponar and Respondek 1998). [Pg.61]

It is less powerful and slower in action than neostigmine but it has a longer duration of action. It has relatively mild gastrointestinal effect but an antimuscarinic drug may still be required for the stomach cramps. A total daily dose of 450 mg should not be exceeded in order to avoid acetylcholine receptor downregulation. Immunosupressant therapy is usually added if the dose of pyridostigmine exceeds 360 mg daily. It is only available as a tablet, unlike neostigmine which comes as a tablet and injection. [Pg.142]

The economic importance of anthranilates resides in their well-estabilished antiinflammatory activity. Thus, many derivatives have been synthesized with the objective of discovering new pharmacological agents such as immunosupressants, fungicides and agents for the prevention of nerve cell damage204. Anthranilic acid has also been used in the synthesis of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, such as dicyclooctabiphenylenes, ... [Pg.37]

The Mukaiyama reagent, l-methyl-2-chloropyridinium iodide (28), is also suitable for macrolactamization [85]. Jones et al. [86] achieved the first total synthesis of the important immunosupressant (-)-FK-506 (151) using the Mukaiyama method as a key cyclization step. As shown in Scheme 50, the unstable amino acid 149 was treated with 28 under high dilution to give the macrocycle 150 in... [Pg.139]

These are generally not influenced by the genetic predisposition of the exposed individual, but on actual outbreak of infections and the general immune status prior to exposition. This explains why immunosupressive xenobiotics are most likely to have clinical consequences in immunocompromised individuals such as young children, the elderly, and transplant recipients. [Pg.600]

By utilizing AChE-R, a known positive modulator of inflammation, we have demonstrated a means for counter-aeting the immunosuppressive aetions of nieotinic AChR stimulation. AChE-R has been shown to induce a pro-inflammatory cytokine response as well as an enhanced cellular response. We demonstrated that the effects of OP-induced immunosupression in skeletal muscle are reversed following treatment with AChE-R. Thus in AChE-R we have produced a therapeutic protein that is capable of preventing both the acute presentation and chronic dysmor-phology and immunosuppression of OP toxicity. [Pg.706]

The tandem cationic aza-Cope rearrangement followed by a Mannich cyclization was applied in the synthesis of the novel tricyclic core structure of the powerful immunosupressant FR901483 in the laboratory of K. Brummond. Their approach was the first synthetic example in which this tandem reaction passes through a bridgehead iminium ion. [Pg.22]
