Planning identity

The derivation of a QSAR equation involves a number of distinct stages. First, it is obviousl necessary to synthesise the compormds and determine their biological activities. Whe planning which compormds to synthesise, it is important to cover the range of propertie that may affect the activity. This means applying the data-checking and -manipulation prc cedures discussed earlier. For example, it would be unwise to make a series of coinpound with almost identical partition coefficients if this is believed to be an important property. 

Objective Provide information on the identity, quantity, location, physical properties, and toxicity of chemicals at sites within the planning district.

Testing must be conducted in a typical end-user environment, or in a simulated end-user environment, identical with the environment where the software/computer system will be used. It has to be noted that mass spectra of anthraquinones obtained by HPLC MS usually consist of only a few specific signals, which makes the identification of their structures difficult or even impossible (especially in the case of isomers). Retention time is an additional and useful parameter, allowing verification of their identity, but proper interpretation of obtained results still poses a considerable challenge for analysts. Moreover, tiny samples often turn out to be insufficient for the isolation of the satisfactory amount of colourants for spectrometric analyses this is why wide experience and careful planning are necessary.

The multibranched dodeca-arabinosaccharide 174 (Scheme 5.38) is a relevant part of the of LAM glycolipid of M. tuberculosis, illustrated in Figure 5.2.
