Human chorionic gonadotropin recombinant

The menotropins, human menopausal gonadotropin (HMG) and urofollitropin are prepared from the urine of postmenopausal women. HMG has approximately equal amounts of FSH an LH. Urofollitropin has only FSH activity. Follitropin alpha and follitropin beta are two FSH products which are made with recombinant DNA technology. Lutropin alpha is recombinant human LH. Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is produced in the placenta and excreted in the urine. It has mainly LH activity. Choriogonadotropin alpha is the world s first recombinant chorionic gonadotropin (r-hCG) for the treatment of anovulation, the most common cause of infertility in women. 

The recombinant and urinary forms of human chorionic gonadotropin have also been compared in an international multicenter study, with similar findings (16), but it was notable that significantly more patients who were given uhCG reported local reactions (particularly inflammation and pain), presumably because of the presence of biological impurities.

Each vial contains 285 meg of choriogonadotropin alpha, 30 mg sucrose, 0.98 mg phosphoric acid, and sodium hydroxide (for pH adjustment) which, when reconstituted with the diluent, will deliver 250 meg of recombinant human chorionic gonadotropin. The pH of the reconstituted solution is 6.5-7.5.
